Ambulances in NYC (Besides FDNY and Volunteer)
Does anyone know the private ambulances of NYC, besides FDNY-EMS, Bravo, Hatzolah and other volunteer ambulance groups, which frequencies do they operate on?
I have noticed the volunteer ambulances have MARS/EMS# (Starting with 9Xs) and they check in on the 800 System occasionally. But I am looking for the other ambulance services such as North Shore Hospital, First Response, St. Vincent's Medical Center, Flushing Hospital Medical Center..etc. They have decals identifying them being dispatched off the 911 system, but I never hear them on the FDNY-EMS channels
Any help will be appreciated!

At the risk of being way out of date and not very helpful, I remember reading a book by a NYC paramedic from the early 1990s. He worked on St Vinny's and a couple other hospital trucks and they used similar callsigns to what the (then) NYC*EMS were using, like 14 Young, 23 Victor, etc.

My info may be out of date also, I worked at Flushing from the early 80's to early 90's. We had unit numbers 47Adam (BLS),47 X-ray(ALS). Flushing facility number was if I remember correctly 27. The numbers on the vehicles were just the equipment numbers, and the MODAT ID . Which had to be entered by the dispatcher at the beginning of each shift, along with the shield numbers of the crew, to show up on the dispatchers console who was calling. Since the FDNY merge I'm not sure what their unit numbers are. I believe they followed the FD battalion numbers of that area.
BTW for those who want to know the old system, the numbers and radio frequencies followed a scheme based on what borough (1) Manhattan,(2) Bronx,(3) Brooklyn, (4) Queens, (5) Staten Island, followed by the facility or area number and then the unit alpha tag based on whether it was a BLS-Adam,Boy,Charlie,or ALS X-ray, William, Victor. The numbers above would indicate,14 Victor,a Manhattan unit(1), possibly Cabrini Hospital (4) and an ALS unit(Young). 23 Victor is Bronx, out of possibly Jacobi and also an ALS unit.

Thank you guys!
Taking a closer look at the layout, I notice the letter designator (Adam, Boy, Henry..etc) are based on whether the ambulance is BLS or ALS. Are all FDNY-EMS are ALS units and other non-FDNY units are BLS?
If so than I'm guessing the number designator is based on geographic location and not the actual battalion number (since they don't really belong to a battalion..?)

You've been hearing those ambulances all along and never realized it. For example 51W is a ALS ambulance from Jamaica Hospital while 50E is a BLS ambulance from Jamaica and so on...

Are there any "volunteer" ambulances any more? Such as Bedford Stuyvesant (?spelling?) Volunteer Ambulance?
(as opposed to the "voluntary" ambulances on the chart)
