Default Orange County, NY Live Feed is up...

I put a feed up for Eastern Orange County Police, Fire and EMS on the NYCOMCO Beacon EDACS TRS. It includes the talkgroups for the Town of New Windsor, Town and City of Newburgh, Town and Village of Cornwall, OC Sheriff, Police (agencies dispatched by Central on 800 - Town and Village of Montgomery, Village of Maybrook) as well as miscellaneous common/interop groups such as 911 Polling, Intersystem, Fire 800, Fire Coordinators Tac, etc.

The feed is only running the Beacon TRS at this time. I was asked to stream 36 Control, 718 and Central (MRD) but there is just way too much traffic. If anyone wants to put a separate feed up for any of those, it was very easy to do (plug and play).

Enjoy...

Always nice to see more local feeds coming online. You definitely need to nix that awful ground loop hum, though, it really makes the feed tough to listen to.

I should have the ground loop isolator up by tomorrow. I have to pick one up from Radioshack or the Shack or whatever they want to call themselves. That should eliminate the audio hum.

Ground Loop Isolator - RadioShack.com

As far as the tinny sound, the system just has that sound unfortunately.

How are the volume settings ? I'm running it through Oddcast and I'm peaking the modulation.

I use the same Rat Shack ground loop isolator, it works really well. The volume seems good to me at this point, although you'll be able to tell better once the ground loop hum is gone.

I listened to some audio I had recorded off the Graham NYCOMCO site, and it does sound a lot better than I had initially thought.

I put a temporary fix in place until I get the isolator. It looks like it took care of most of the hum. Vinny...I adjused the soundcard settings as well. Any better on the tinny sound ?

Audio sounds great now, rich and deep, not tinny/hollow at all. Night and day better without the hum. Lower the gain/volume just a tad, it's distorting slightly.

No problem at all, glad to help. I'd knock the gain down even more, it's still clipping pretty bad with some of the louder transmissions. Looking at the audio in Audacity, it's around 6dB higher than "normal" volume.

I'm listening from work now and the Town PD's sound good...however, the overmodulated agencies (911 for example) really are clipping ...I'm going to knock the gain down even more like you said.

OK..should be back up. I turned the gain way down and peaked the settings a bit more. Hopefully I'm almost done.

The only unfortunate think is I'm connecting to the internet via wireless and that's the computer the feed is tied into. So every so often the wireless link goes down and I have to reconnect it. The good news is radioreference e-mails me when it's down and I get notified so I can fix it unless I'm at work. I should have a permanent hard-line internet connection in place by the end of the week to eliminate that problem.

If it's not one thing it's another....
