Default Tuning in Monroe and Erie

Hi guys. I'm in genesee (WNY), and I cannot pull in Monroe or erie, and it's kinda bothering me. I haven't tried open squelch yet, but if I have to have it on open squelch all the time to hear anything, I'll back off. I can hear Wyoming and orleans fine, but then again, those are both on high powered 800 mhz. Is it possible to pull in 100-400 mhz frequencies 35 miles away, on a default Pro 2022? Thanks

Theoretically, it should be easier to pull in the lower frequencies than the higher frequencies. However, you're antenna may have something to do with it. What type are you using?

Uhh. I'm not sure what the official name is for this type... or any type haha. It's not a "ruber duckie... It's one you screw in at the top. It looks like a boombox or radio antenna but it screws in.

I'm not sure why you can't hear Erie or Monroe. I'm in Erie and while I do use an outdoor antenna, I can hear Monroe easily, even with a rubber duckie antenna. Monroe County Sheriff and Rochester use a lot of the same frequencies as Erie Sheriff and Buffalo Police and I get a little interference sometimes when both are transmitting at the same time on the same frequency.

Guhhh. That makes me feel good haha. Maybe my scanner is in a bad spot? Or maybe I'm being too impatient and nothing is being broadcasted while I'm listening. Hmm. Any "reception enhancing" tips? Thanks. I'll put in some monroe freqs, and then I'll listen to the feed on here at the same time.

Ryan,

What part of Genesee County are you in? I am in LeRoy and pick up Monroe just fine. I think I talked to you before and I believe you are in Bethany correct?

If so, you will not be able to pick up Erie. Erie County mainly uses UHF and not much power. Also There is something in Batavia that jams singals to the west. Unless you are using an outdoor antenna you will not pick up any of Erie County.

As for Monroe County, you should be picking them up with no problem. Tell me what freqs are you using and what PL Tones you are using and I will tell you if they are right or wrong. Monroe County is so strong you can pick them up from Buffalo to Toronto to Syracuse to Watertown. You should have no problem picking them up. I have even picked them up before with no antenna on my radio.

Dan

Hey dan,
I'm in batavia. Last night I was trying to setup monroe and I heard the Fire/EMS dispatch for 1 call that came in crystal clear. I cant use the PL tones for monroe because my scanner doesn't pick up 200 or 300 mhz. I tried and checked. Can't punch in 203.5. That's how I'm supposed to do it right? Thanks

EDIT: Oh, and I'm using the rochester police and rochester fire dispatch freqs listed on this site.

Your scanner doesn't do tones so you don't have to worry about those.

As for the Rochester Police, there main transmitter has been down for over a year now. You may not be able to pick them up in Batavia. As for Fire you should pick up 154.130, 154.250, 154.385, 154.175, 154.310 with no problem. All you will hear is the dispatch from where you are. They do not use a repeater so you will not hear any of the mobiles or portables.

Erie County, you being in Batavia may or may not pick them up. When I am mobile I can pick up most of Erie County when on the T-Way once I get over the big hill on the T-Way just past Seven Spring Rd. On just a table top with no outside scanner antenna, I doubt you will be able to pick them up.
