Hey All,

I'm in the final process of moving to Montrose indefinitely. I'm curious as to a number of things, being I'm ignorant to Westchester County operations. Are Cortlandt Police & Fire on the trunked system? If so which talk groups? And if not, what frequencies are they on? What are their ID's?

Thanks for any and all help.

Welcome to the area.

Police coverage for Montrose is provided by Westchester County Police 155.3100MHz, and New York State Police 155.505MHz.

EMS is provided by Cortlandt Community Volunteer Ambulance Corp. 155.2200MHz.

Montrose Fire Department is dispatched (and I believe operates on) 46.26MHz, they are assigned to Fire 10 on Westchester County's Fire/EMS UHF Trunked System http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=1744.
They are assigned Fireground 6 for on scene operations http://www.westchestergov.com/emergserv/jdocs/UHFplan.pdf

Fire and EMS numbering can be found at http://emergencyservices.westchestergov.com/images/stories/pdfs/fire/app2010.pdf

Montrose FD: Engines 121, 122, 123, Tower Ladder 8, Rescue 51, Chiefs 2271, 2272, 2273 & 227xx(Officers & Deputy Chiefs)
Cortlandt VAC Ambulances 88B1, 88B2, 88B3

Other info can be found at Westchester County, New York (NY) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

Thanks. Is there a mutual aid ops frequency for EMS, Police, and Fire in Westchester County? And also could you provide the same information for Cortlandt, Buchanan, and Peekskill? The database for Westchester is a bit hard to figure out with who operates on trunked only, and who doesn't. Thanks.

There are indeed a lot of fire frequencies, but there are none that are dedicated to Montrose. I would recommend either 46.26 or on of the cross band repeaters to help you hear both sides of the conversation as 46.26 is simplex CSQ.

From Montrose you should be able to hear Briarcliff, Croton (if its still there) or Yorktowns Cross Band repeaters, but realize these repeat ALL of the 46.26 transmissions they can hear which ican be a lot.

As for the trunked system, no one is dispatched on the trunk system, only Fire Ops and very little EMS ops. There is not as much activity on the trunked system as you would think, unless there is an active fire or similar emergency (like the storm yesterday), then all bets are off.

I would also program all the fireground frequencies in. You rarely hear anything unless they are very close and if they are very close you probably want to hear what they are saying.

I leave all the Fire and EMS talkgroups in and it is manageable listening, or you can leave in only your battalion, but I have found the FDs operating on Ops frequencies other than their normal batallion so it is up to you.

Peekskill and Buchanan (and Verplank) Fire same thing.

Peekskill PD dispatches for Buchanan PD (Freq in Database)

Final note: The County Police is secondary in Cortland State Police are Primary. The county car assigned is 27-Charlie. They can be heard on both 155.310 (County) and 155.505/154.920 (State PD)

Bottom line, you need to experiement when you get there and decide what works best for you listening enjoyment.
