Hi I know the NYPD transit police use old motorola sabers on VHF and normal patrol cops use vertex standard vx-530s on UHF. Does anyone know what other radios they use thanks... btw their system is still pretty old (still not trunked) mainly because of the enormous city size lol

They are analog and non trunked because they feel that works better for public safety, not because of the city size or any other factors.

Most Sabers have been replaced with Vertex VX-537. You still see sabers carried by traffic agents.

SSE5000s are usually seen with ESU and/or Highway, but I have seen very little usage of them, most ESU/Highway carry VX-537.

School Safety agents uses Vertex and PR1500s.

I agree with those who say the system works well. No need to change something that has proved it works.

SSE5000 are used by auxiliary police along with saber 1 and a a few saber 2's ...
Transit uses vhf saber 1 and vx-800 for brass

patrol uses vx-537 assigned to every officer

detectives and brass carry vx-800's assigned to them and anyone with a hook !!!

esu/k9/highway should all be using vx-537

school safety uses - ht1000

traffic uses the old vertex vx-520's that came out of the patrol

this should be 99.9% correct,as i do carry a ID in my wallet from the NYPD

Happy Holidays !!!

p.s.
some rmp's,unmarked, trucks have spectra's or vertex vx-4000's in them

thanks for the info = ] but i think school safety switched to the vx-537 also because i work at my former high school and hang out with the SSAs all the time although they do have a few old HT1000s in the office i think just for back-ups. the vx-537 is one big metal brick lol.

happy holidays to you 2

jamezzy: what color is behind your head?

Highway District (and, as far as I knew, ES) did not carry Saber Special Editions. They went from Saber 1Es (or Saber IIs, at best) straight to the Vertex VX series radios. The channel capacity (16 channels x 6 banks = 96), as programmed, of the SSEs is too low for citywide commands such as ES and HD.

I can not confirm jamezzy's claim that APs are carrying Saber SEs, but in terms of uniformed forces, SSEs have been relegated to the reserve stockpiles carried in field command posts that are made available to any MOFs that:

(a) show up for an event without their own radio, or
(b) have their own radio, but do not have the channel programmed in them that is being used for the event

Nah, the best dispatcher left in 1983 to be a court officer, and now dispatches part time for Putnam County Sheriff...
