Strange units heard on FDNY RRV Channels
Hi all,
I've been hearing units like Engine 525, Engine 515, Ladder 708 and other Ladder companies in the 5XX series on the DOITT 400 Mhz System RRV talkgroups during TS Sandy coverage, where do these extra engines came from?
Thanks and stay safe from the storm!

They are spare engines/ladders that were deployed to certain firehouses.

There are many reserve units operating tonight. Anyone have a rundown?
I've heard extra Division Cheifs, extra Rescues, "swift-water-units", etc

Does anyone know if NYFD has called in off duty firefighters to assist? Or perhaps they came, (or are coming) in on their own?

Can you elaborate, I'm not sure how that works. TY. TT.

Extra personal have been called in. For every 3 hours after 12am, their will be a shift change for the Engine, Ladder, and Rescue companies. Its a way to relieve the crews so they can get some rest and a hot meal and to not overwhelm a single shift.

Sounds like a good strategy, I've been listening to them here and was wondering. Thanks!
