I live in Suffolk, work in Brooklyn and when I get home from work I don't listen to a thing. I'm tired.

I live in Guilderland, NY (Albany county). I regularly monitor EMS and FD traffic in Albany county, Rensselaer county, Saratoga county (specifically Mechanicville, I work there and run the scanner feed), as well as the commercial ambulance services in the area sometimes. I'm a career paramedic and a bit of a nomad - I work in most of the systems I monitor.

I live in Northern Broome County.
For the past 12 years, I’ve provided a live feed for:
Binghamton, Broome, Tioga, and Susquehanna Counties Public Safety Live Scanner Audio Feed
I try to monitor EVERYTHING. (And I really mean EVERYTHING!)
I monitor the following counties in NY:
Broome
Tioga
Chenango
Chemung
Cortland
Delaware
Otsego
And the following counties in PA:
Susquehanna
Bradford
Lackawanna
Wyoming
Radios have always been in my blood.
I built my first radio from scratch when I was 8 years old.
I worked on a LOT of satellite etc. communication & surveillance systems for a lot of years.
Many of them you've probably heard about, many you haven't (and never will).
When it became obvious to me that the real money was in computers, I went back to college and became a software engineer.
Then, I worked in computer design for a number of years.
When I had earned/saved/invested enough that I could afford to go back into RF work for just the fun of it, I did!
The kind of work where they ‘almost’ didn’t have to pay me, I just wanted to be allowed to ‘show up’!

Cool, thanks. As far as EMS support, I had considered it... My thoughts were - 1) the paging scanner is scanning 3 different frequencies looking for tones. While it is on one frequency recording a page, it can miss pages on the other frequencies if they go out at the same time. Since there are so many more EMS calls, this makes this more likely -- unless I get 2 more scanners and just have 1 scanner per frequency.... and 2) I didn't think there would be a lot of interest in all the sick persons, fall/lift assists, mhu transports, etc... Since the FD's are dispatched on the higher priority delta's/echo's MVA's etc... the more interesting stuff is being posted. But if there is a significant interest in the other stuff, I can consider it... Not that hard to add them.

I'm here in Putnam County. I monitor the Carmel PD, Putnam County S.O., a few northern Westchester towns. Fire & EMS, but only if there's something interesting going on.
I always monitor NYS Electric & Gas. Been a utility buff since I was a little kid. Used to listen to LILCO (Long Island Lighting Company) on a converted tube type fm radio that had no squelch. I borrowed a signal generator and a grid dip meter and went through about 4 FM radios before I got one to work reasonably well.
Been thinking about putting up a feed for NYSEG, so I can listen in the car without running into problems with VTL section 397.
Anyone else in NY using their smart phone to listed to the PD (Legally) while mobile?

I work for Putnam County 911 and am a member & Ex-Chief of Mahopac VFD. When I am not working (which is according to my friends not that often) I listen to most of the lower Hudson Valley.
At work I am always monitoring Orange & Rockland on the web besides my work radios (Putnam & Westchester). I also keep an ear open for Warren County where my mom lives.

Scanning has been one of my hobbies since joining my local FD in '67. The list of radios is nearly endless. What a hoot when my carrer in the nuz biz allowed me to take my hobbie to work. I have the NYS permit for scanners in a car and my boss is happy to let me go hole hog with them in the company SUV. My commute from Melville to NYC and covering the metro area means over 5K channels of listening plesure. You never know what you'll hear next and it's important that it be heard by the people who pay the bills!
