I monitor 911 calls in Orange County as much as possible. However, sometimes it's not feasible to listen to scanner feeds, but I still want to be informed. Continuous monitoring of scanner feeds over cellular networks eats away at data allowances and drains your battery.
In other areas around the country people have setup talk groups with the Zello app. Zello is available for Iphone, Android, Blackberry, PC and soon for Windows Mobile. Zello uses very little resources and is easy to use. The Zello talk group is another way of getting breaking real time incident reports in Orange County.
My hope is that this talk group channel will be used to report confirmed, moderate to major incidents in a short "dispatch like" format by its users. I would like to get the group started without a password for now and see how it goes. If you are interested, get the Zello App and add channel "Orange 911 NY".
