Default NYC DOITT 800 MHz D.E.P. TG 17680 Question

I have searched the forum and wiki and have not seen the answer to this question - What is the coverage area of DEP's Police division on talk group 17680? For example what is the radio system infrastructure up in the Reservoir areas, like site locations, and more importantly how big is 17680's area of coverage? To me it seems like a stretch that counties like Delaware or Ulster would be covered by this TG. Any info appreciated, TT.

The company they use has agreements or has equipment in or on there buildings upstate as well as mountain tops,One transmitter is located in eastern Columbia county,One in Stamford (Delaware county),i forget where in ulster, Plus they have licensed them selfs at there larger facility's,Grahamsville come to mind,Also the upstate Cars have highband's in there cars and Delaware county and i think Ulster can assist them....Greene dont play nice they can hear them only...search Goosetown or Repeater Network...UHF freqs....Very few cars i have see around here have 800 antennas...mostly the "Tac" trucks...

Thanks Mtnrider for that great info, it cleared up a lot of questions. I was listening to an OTA roll call this morning at 2:00 am and heard units like 5W24 and 3W18 ( I didn't write them down, hope they're correct) checking in. Then looking at the NYSP entry in the wiki I couldn't find what the prefix "W" stood for. Are they special trooper units assigned to DEP? Just wondering......

The W is for NYC DEP. You are able to hear the upstate units on the 800 trunking system because there is a bi directional patch that goes from 800 to the UHF trunking system that they use.

Yes it is Goosetown but if one were to look it up via FCC....will be listed as Repeater Network in the northern parts....2 newest callsigns are for ulster county....
