Default NYSP on Long Island

Leaving aside the trunk group, I have every possible frequency programmed in and I still get only one side of a communication. Yeah, I know, "The NYSP uses a duplex radio system on VHF. You must listen to both the base and mobile frequencies in order to follow the conversation." If you have all of them programmed in then what's the problem? Any ideas appreciated. Thanks. Also, what's with 173.0750 ? It sounds like a control frequency but control for what ? Tnx.

Dispatch is easy to hear. They transmitt from tall towers with high powered radios. The cars are harder because they only have antennas on the roof of the car and transmitt with less power. But you can still hear them when you are with in a couple of miles of their location.
The Parkway channel [155.460] is used by both the dispatcher and cars, and uses the same PL tone [110.9]. As far as 173.075, isn't that the frequency for the Lo-Jack car finder system?

I find it best to.put nyspd in its own bank. On uniden dma scanners set the delay time to 0 and the bank hold time to 2. On scanners with a hard coded number of memory locations per bank, turn off the delay and repeat the nyspd freqs over and over until the bank is full.

This will increase your odds on hearing both sides of the duplex system assuming you are in receiving range of the mobiles. You should also invest in an outdoor or mobile antenna if you don't already have one.

Ps- lose the LoJack frequency.

What Phil said is dead on. You need them in their own bank with all of their channels set not to delay before it resumes scanning. The other thing you could try is a vhf antenna tuned to that freq range. These little multiband rubber duck antennas are not good for vhf unless your close to the transmitter and the patrol car.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that on the parkways they have remote receivers along the roadways. The base is not that strong (I live near the western barracks, the dispatch is Bethpage or Farmingdale) but I do get it. I can get the mobiles as far as exit 17 at most. The cars are really low power and there is no repeater.I think the only way the base could generally hear them is with remote receivers along the roadway.
