NYSP 220 MHz Freqs
I see that the NYSP has freqs licesned under the QM - Non-Nationwide Public Safety/Mutual Aid, 220 MHz area. I see they are are 4K00J2D AM emissions Does anyone know what these are used for and has anyone heard activity on them?

4K00 = 4 KHz of bandwidth
J = Single-sideband, suppressed carrier
2 = A single channel containing quantized or digital information with the use of a
modulating sub-carrier, excluding time-division multiplex
D = Data transmission, telemetry, telecommand
Probably wouldn't be much interesting to listen in on. Just data. Not sure on exact usage, though.

220 Mhz
About 15 years ago a piece of equipment crossed my desk. It said NYSP on it and had crystals for
2 or 3 channels in the low 220 mhz range. At that time I looked the frequencies up in the FCC database but,
found nothing. I monitored the channels for a few months and heard nothing. I just looked through my files and cannot find the frequencies. My recollection is the box was TX only lower power maybe under 10 watts and I cannot remember if it had a TX ID tag on it. Never powered it up to find out any mode. I would not have considered it to be from a common radio manufacturer of the time. I wondered if they used it for some kind of tracking device or listening device.

At one time I believe the 220 plan was to provide data links for the vehicle reporting systems. UTT's etc.

I know what the emissions code means, but I'm still looking for the freqs purpose.

There's several licenses that together form a statewide network of towers in that range operating at ~100w. There is also one mobile license covering the entire state for operations at 50w (WPQX391). Appears this is not just point-to-point fixed, but is mobile. Also, 4K00J2D and 4K00J3E are both there, so this can be used for voice as well as data. Odd to see high VHF licensed for SSB operation.
I was initially going to say perhaps this is for mobile computing (I dunno if they use commercial cell nets though, so that's just complete guesswork), but then I looked all that up and I have no idea.

I believe that COMSEC has the ability to transmit "SJS" cases to the troop cars for cases that require written reports.
