Hey all. New here and new to the scanner game, moved to NYC about 6 months ago. Looking for some help/info on DoITT in Manhattan. Basically are there any active? I have the conventional NYPD set up and that seems to be working fine but not picking up anything on the DoITT, pretty sure I have it all set up correctly so wanted to see if there were any active so I can test.

Thanks in advance.

On the 800mhz system the sewer dept. is active
And on the 480mhz system DSNY is active

You will need a scanner that is custom/reband capable

Thanks. Do you happen to know the base, offset and spacing for the 800MHz or can I just set it to standard 800/900? It doesn't have them on the page here. I have a BCT15X btw.

Actually the 800mhz is not a custom system so you should be ok with programming it as a standard Motorola Type II system
If your still not picking anything up then set it to "ID Search" and this will open the system up to any talkgroup that is transmitting

Thanks for the replies. I finally picked some stuff up on it, it's very distorted but i can hear things. I am using the standard antenna and where I had it in my apt was not the best (i'm on the ground floor), moved it to the rear next to a window and that seems to be better. Think i'll pick up a better antenna to mount just outside my window.

There is a lot of congestion on 800mhz in the NYC area due to several other 800mhz trunk systems in the radius as well as cell phones ,etc so that would be the reason for the distortion and whatnot

The fix would be to get a antenna dedicated for 800mhz but with a scanner that may not be in the best interest
I have a "Comet BNC-W100RX" which is a telescoping indoor antenna but it works quite well on 800mhz as well as other bands in general
What also works O.K for me on 800mhz is actually a Radioshack magnet mount antenna which i am not sure if it is on the market anymore
It has a few feet of coax cable hooked directly up to it so maybe something like that is what you are looking for being that you said you wanted to perhaps mount it outside a window...

The DOITT systems have digital talk groups as well as analog that the 15X won't pick up. Check the data base here to get all the info.

Only some of them must be digital as I do pick up traffic on both the 400 and 800, however I am on the ground floor at the back of the building so there is only 1 spot currently that I can get them from.

I just programmed the 480 MHz DOITT system in my Bcd436 and not hearing a peep from Jersey. I programmed it in as a Motorola system type, is that correct? Perhaps I'm too far away even though I do see a full strength signal bar. Just not picking up anything. Frusterated.

In order to receive the DOITT UHF (480's) System you need to put in the Motorola Custom Band Plan not Type II:

Lower/Base - 482.0000
Upper - 484.3687
Step - 6.25
Offset - 380

Hope this helps!

I only receive on 2 IDs on the 400 here in Manhattan and I only get that in 1 spot in my Apartment. I can pick up 1 ID on the 800. Getting another antenna so hopefully that sorts things out.

Richard, you're input worked perfectly! I had no idea that I had to literally do a custom band plan within the Site to get it to work. That's the first time I had to do that with the BCD436. It should be written in RR DB in large print that you have to customize the band plan in the scanner for it to work on even the newer scanners. Also, the upper limit should be posted in the RR DB too, which it is not. Thanks again!
