I would assume I will no longer be able to hear s o d out here in Somerset County New Jersey. Most likely it will be low power directional transmitter sites which are lower in elevation.

I donít know about 482.4875 but if you look at the license for WIF-567 you can see 6 sites 3 in Manhattan 2 in SI and 1 in the Bronx.

Itís not about the listeners itís about the users of the system.

Uhhh not if the timing is set up correclty..... Here in Dutchess County we have three analog frequencies that are simulcast (911 Fire/EMS Dispatch, 911 Police Dispatch, and Sheriff Dispatch) that are simulcast and there is no "self jamming' and sounds just fine on scanners, pagers, and radios.

Exactly Rockland has the same thing for their analog paging channel.

The SOD channel historically has been running as analog, so as long as it is analog after the simulcast upgrade, LSM does not apply.
LSM is P25.

(LSM is not self jamming...it's just poor receivers that can't handle it)

I certainly hope you are wrong. That would mean converting everything to p25.

With all the stuff I can listen to out here in Ct, SOD has always been on the top of my list as the go to freq to monitor. I remember listening to them when they were on VHF ( 155.610 I think ) many, many years ago, and being able to hear them even 60 miles from the city, and Danny being my favorite dispatcher. Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see.

Thumbs down

Danny was mine to and I go back as far when it was 155.535 VHF and John dispatched on the midnight

And Artie was on Adam one

So like anything else it is ruined

Thank the jammers and the politicians

Maybe the blow back will change it but I doubt it

Moreover with the T Band giveback itís insane to go do this and have to move I hear FDNY is going down the same route in the future

This will put the paging service out of BIZ

Sad

The amount of interop that SOD utilizes it's not registerering with me that they'll go encrypted. Why would FD go encrypted I don't really see a purpose, EMS maybe due to hippa but they use the MDT for sensitive information.

Is it just SOD or will it be all NYPD channels?

FDNY will have encryption for some things but not everything. Normal stuff will still be in the clear.

HIPAA is an excuse for encryption, not a valid reason.

I doubt FDNY would ever encrypt routine traffic. They still have the bad taste in their mouth from trying digital.

Simulcast sounds like crap on a scanner whether it is digital or analog. I understand that the system is designed for its users and that commercial radios are designed to take advantage of it. But this is primarily a scanner listener forum, so...

Do you remember the "prayer" John did at the end of every tour? My memory is fuzzy these days.
