Default online courses?

Due to my work schedual the closest class I can take I can only make one class out of 2. Is there a place online maybe on the FCC website were I can take my test and get my technicians licence and all that. Or do I have to take the classes. Hopefully my schedual will allow in the feature if i can. thanks.

You may be able to just take the test on the day they are giving it. I did the class last weekend and 5 or more people came in just for the test without sitting through the class. Test takes a half hour or less, plus grading time.

You don't really have to take a class, but you will have to physically go for a test. Try HamTestOnline.com, they have an online tutorial that will explain things as you go. You can even take practice tests without the tutorial if you want to. QRZ.com also has practice tests. This really helped me out, and I go for the test tomorrow morning. ARRL.org will have a list of scheduled exams in your area. Some of them have special notes like "pre-registration required" or "walk-ins welcome".

Good luck.

I bought the ARRL Tech book online and read it. I used the practice tests at eham.net to track my progress. Much of the information is pretty common sense and the rest is straightforward and easy to understand. I was able to pass the test after the first couple of chapters and was acing it after getting through the book. I took my test two weeks after I got the book and got my ticket, then I actually started learning stuff!

If you already have a scanner listen to the local club nets and that will help you understand some the operation and etiquette. Plus listen for the net controller's callsign and see if he/she addresses potential hams with contact info. This can be a good way to get some more info and perhaps find an elmer. Any way, good luck and let us know how goes it!

ETA: Good luck to webley as well.

I passed with a 33 out of 35. Tried the General just for kicks, but since I never studied for it, I didn't get it. I'll get it later.

Good luck.

Congrats. Welcome to the ranks. While you are in the study mode, get cracking on the General test. Hope to hear you on the air soon.
