Default Portable ham radio

where if possabile could i find a portable ham radio mostly for scanner use and sometimes talking on the 440mhz band with sometimes on the 145mhz area as well.

If you want to do both look for a kenwood th-f6a a true dual band portable with general receive you can talk on vfo a and scan on vfo b. Any ham radio shop ie HRO AES etc have them. Used run around 200 and up.

The other one is the VX7R or 8R from Yaesu they are also dual-band dual-display.

I use my VX7R scanning on one VFO with the repeater set up on the other regularly. The free VX Commander software is great to have too....you'll need to buy a programming cable though...or make one.

no i dont have a licence yet but im looking into it thats why looking into portables so i could some skywarn...
