Usally, I side with the LEOs
and what they have to do to protect people, themselves, property, etc. But this time they were in the wrong! One thing, tasing without warning is not acceptable. Another, the man was trying to help to stop the spread of the fire.
And on the side of the news media, they were wrong in not reporting what if anything happened to that man's home.

The man was on his own property protecting his own property. The police had no business interfering with his actions on his property. I would say if his house sustained damage, the city should pay for the repairs, plus compensate him for the actions of the police.

I'm sure there's more to the story as always but oh how quickly you judge when you don't have all the facts. What you have here is one story with two missing, those of the police and firemen on scene. What was THEIR perception of the danger the man put himself in?

He wasn't, he was spraying water on his house, an exposure from the house next door that was on fire.

FD wasn't on scene, that is why the man was spraying water on the exposure, his house. Apparently he wasn't in much danger as the police officers were in the same area and used a taser to incapacitate the man. So the police claim he was placing himself in danger, but then they incapacitated him so he couldn't move from the area of "danger."

We can argue this until the cows come home but my point remains.
"He says they tasered him for doing what any father and husband would do protect his family's home from an out-of-control grease fire."
I'm sure that led to much confusion but the Darwin Award nomination remains.
The fire department may not have been on scene yet but I'm sure their assessment of danger accounts for something. Now why did he spray his daughter's room and the back corner of the rooftop when the fence was on fire?
"When Jensen saw the fire jump on to his back roof, he again grabbed the hose. That's when he said -- unknown to him -- a police officer pulled out a taser and fired it at his back."
I can understand the second attempt but by that time the police had about enough of his nonsense and put a stop to it. Read the article again and keep events in chronological order, all up to spraying a fire on the roof was nonsense bordering on insanity. The only mistake the police made was not issuing verbal warning before firing the Taser, otherwise I see their actions justified.
As always the "victim" calls for the WWWAAAaaambulance and the media dispatches one.

Nice one-sided story from some guy a week after the event. I can see being emotional at the time, even a day later, but its been a week and this grown man is still wimpering like a 6 year old. Lets hear the other side of the story. Oh, not gonna hear that I'm sure, then there'd be no story at all. Slow news day in Pinellas Park?
