Default Grocerie for Guns

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Long lines of cars and people formed Wednesday to
take advantage of a guns-for-groceries exchange program that was moved
up in the wake of the Connecticut school shooting.

LA offers groceries for guns in annual buyback - Yahoo! News

Some of the law abiding are now unarmed.
Anyone believe that any of the thugs turned in their guns?

I would say run of the mill dummies turned some in, then hungry dummies, then a few hungry thugs that didn't deplete their inventories much-----

L.A. gun buyback nets 2,037 firearms, including 75 assault weapons - latimes.com

Quote:
A one-day gun buyback event in Los Angeles on Wednesday gathered 2,037 firearms, including 75 assault weapons and a rocket launcher, officials said. The total was nearly 400 more weapons than were collected in a similar buyback earlier this year.
Kinda blows holes (77mm ones) in the theory that these are just for hunting or personal defense.

If you need a rocket launcher for self defense anywhere in the US, then maybe you need to think about improving relations with your neighbors.

Note, the article I read also said the launcher was missing key components needed to fire and no projectiles were with it, and was owned by the family of a soldier.

The 2nd Amendment isn't about hunting, hunting firearms, etc. To some degree, it is about personal protection but, first and foremost, it is about the citizens being able to resist a tyrannical government. How does one throw off a tyranny without military grade weapons? WE the people should not fear our government.... our government should fear the PEOPLE. Fear can't be instilled with slingshots and airsoft firearms.

I love how our government wants to give us a measly $200 grocery card. No wonder why people usually turn in crap!
You want me to turn in my guns, worth several thousand for $200? Don't insult me!

(Not that I would sell them back anyway)

"How does one throw off a tyranny without military grade weapons?"

Good question since times sure have changed since the 2nd Amendment was ratified. It gave states the right to have an organized militia which consisted of part time soldiers having weapons at home to be called upon in defense of the state. A good example of a militia is the Minutemen, they even have a missile named after them. Today it is the State National Guard pretty much the same only they don't take their weapons home, not the tanks nor the fighter jets.

It seems somebody didn't get the message.

Rather than complain about our Government's ill-informed anti-gun polilcies, I suggest that if you haven't done so already that you pony up the measly $35 annual membership fee and join the NRA.

Sorry if this suggestion offends some of you, but the last time I looked it was still a free country we live in.

Nearly got rid of Bill Murray too. (;->)

What's this about joining the NRA? With the crap they've been spewing lately they make Republican Congress critters look intelligent. I can think of better things to do with 35 bucks, that's enough venison to put on the plates of everyone in town. (It's a small town.)

Supporting your civil rights, yea that's a real radical concept.

Yeah, civil rights. I've had it up to THERE with "civil rights" since the Act was ratified and went into law. They say turnabout is fair play but it's anything but equal, "equal rights" is a joke so now wait and see gun legislation take the same turnabout since the NRA has become a joke.

Now getting back to what I saw a while ago but didn't comment on, that's not a rocket launcher. It's a single shot light anti-tank weapon (the LAW) which is the latest generation of the bazooka, use once and toss away. Technically it launches a small rocket powered armor piercing shell but when someone says rocket launcher a Stinger or other shoulder fired ground to air missile comes to mind.
