It took over 5 or more years to decide? Give it time years down the road they will be delivering mail 4 days a week.

I saw on the news that it would take an increase of the cost of a stamp to $1.08 just for them to break even. They are bleeding money and in my opinion won't last, even with no mail on Saturday.

Likely so.

Our mail carrier was telling us back before Christmas that this would be announced around now. I know one thing that would help would be for companies to start using USPS shipping for packages. I almost always use them when selling stuff on e-bay, and I've always had good luck with them. Nothing against UPS or FedEx, just a personal choice.

Saturday will now be dedicated to postal carriers who will use the extra time to burn the pile of undelivered mail located at their residence.

USPS is bleeding money because since 2006 Congress has been stealing over $5 billion per year to "prefund future retiree healthcare 75 years in advance", and only allowed 10 years to accomplish it.
Operating expenses are not breaking the USPS, Congress is.

A monday, wednesday and friday delivery schedule would be more than adequate. 90% of what comes in the US Mail goes straight to the garbage anyway. Where I live, they are lousy with package delivery. Some of the carriers won't even bother attempting delivery and you are lucky if you even get the attempted delivery notice or a knock at the door when they have one. I guess its easier to just leave them in the truck and dump them all back at the PO after their route is done. On a few occasions I've had to contact the customer service (regarding lost items). They always take down the information and tell you a supervisor will call you back within 24 hours. It usually takes them more than a week to get back with you.

Our delivery person just throws the packages in our yard behind our house! No kidding. I've had to talk with the Post Master a few times about that. She has delivered our packages to the wrong address several times and marked them as shipped. I have no recourse as far as insurance goes as they are marked delivered and it's my word against hers. The only satisfaction I get is when the neighbor down the street brings us the packages. Then I kindly call the Post Master and tell her that our mail lady delivered our packages to the wrong address - again.

As far as the Postal Service bleeding money, I stand behind my original statement. It doesn't matter what programs they are trying to make work, the fact is, they are spending more money than they are taking in.

Stop calling the postmaster. Call the complaint line listed on the website. After three complaints from an address in six months it gets sent way up the chain. I did this and most all of my issues have been resolved.

The department of defense doesn't "make money" so why does the united states postal SERVICE need to "make money?" It's a service. A public service at that. There's no investors, no shareholders. It's a vital service and yeah it will cost money to provide it.
