As with everything these days including every 911 PSAP, way too much needless complexity has made a very simple alert system useless and unreliable.
..........
All that is needed is one large red button and a key to unlock it.
..........
This worked flawlessly for decades without screw ups.
..........
You have to keep emergency communications and emergency alerting systems as simple and reliable as possible.
......
Instead, the government idiots have switched to a much more complicated and unreliable system likely because they were bribed
to do so.

Default Stave Govt.

It was Hawaii all the way and the employee just got reassigned. No accountability there. He'll probably get a promotion for bringing to light how screwed up their system is.

No government will protect you from an incoming missile that bypasses defenses. If you have your own bunker, you have about 15 minutes to seal it. If you're one of the fortunate and in the the right place/right time to get airlifted to a secure location, you should be in better shape.

Perhaps if the alert button had been painted red, and required a second person to push another red button on a different computer on the opposite side of the room, this wouldn't have happened.

That's somewhat how I understand the USAF does it in the launch silos: separate keys, separate authentication code books, separate buttons, etc.

Lol! What about a dead man's switch? Hit a button every 3 minutes or the alarm goes off!
