Greetings from Virginia, I believe the Blue Ridge Parkway has finally gone P25 up here, reports of 172.750 being monitored in the Roanoke area and no traffic in the past few days on 167.175Mhz. Just a heads up in case anyone in the NC area can catch any new frequencies.
For those who do not listen to them regularly, their dispatch is 800, radio techs I recently heard on the old freq of 167.175 were using units in the 850's range (ie 851) and by-the-way this (851) is not a state park unit as posted previously in another thread, the Virginia districts use 200 and 300 numbers and NC districts are 400 and up, just in case anyone should hear traffic using these number formats.

Here is what I have monitored from the Triad Area for the BRP:

173.7625
172.7500
172.4500
172.7250

All are P25, I've noted some encryption. I've heard some references to individual repeaters, Mt. Mitchell, Rich Mtn, Fishers Peak, Poor Mtn, as their technicians were bringing them on-line. It looks like it is being done like the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, simulcasting on different frequencies at different locations. I figured the next step would be to try and nail down what frequency corresponds to what repeater site(s)

Thanks for the info. I am in Stuart, VA this am and 172.725 is full strength and 172.750 is about 1/2 scale, so I am assuming 172.75 is Poor Mountain in Roanoke and 172.725 may be Fishers Peak. There was repeater sites also on Buffalo Mountain (Floyd County) and Grassy Hill outside Rocky Mount, VA.

This morning I heard alot of digital noise on 172.725. I kept listening and I heard 800 calling 511 clear as a bell and then return to digital. I also heard some digital on 172.750 last night. The signals on both channels were very strong.

Here in WNC, I've been hearing traffic on 172.725 and 172.750. Most of what I've been hearing appears to be a base station (in the clear) and digital buzzing (encryption?) for most of the replies.

I've been searching the general 172-173 range and have discovered a lot of traffic (including lots of digital-sounding signals) but nothing that I can really attribute to BRP.

BRP and 172.725

I just heard someone say on 172.725 yeah, you are good on Mitchell. I assume it's Mt. Mitchell. I hear alot of digital but my 396 doesn't decode, so I'm assuming encrypted? I'm in the Cherokee area wih an outside scantenna. Thanks!

Try 172.475 too (no p25 capabilities myself)

I heard traffic in P25 on 172.475 today. How do you find the federal frequency allocations as mentioned above by someone else ?

David,

Any info on the P25 NAC for the 170 mHz channels? I'm running 293 right now which should catch anything that pops. I haven't heard a peep on 167 in ages so I guess my Ranger up here has also gone to the higher frequency channels. I'm at Wintergreen much of the time almost overlooking the BRP.

Regards,

Tom, W2NJS

?????? - 172.7250 (051 DPL / NAC 160)

Mt. Pisgah - 172.7500 (065 DPL / NAC 110)

?????? - 172.7500 (??? DPL / NAC 160)

Poor Mtn. - 173.7625 (031 DPL / NAC 150)

Does this look right so far to all you folks that are keeping up?

You have done a great job putting it all in one form. I was at Rocky Knob this weekend and it seemed to be that it was 172.475 or 450 as I could hear them on both channels and it was not bleeding over. I don't have a scanner just an Astro Spectra and my XTS5000 FPP. The Rangers I seen at Mabrys Mill had XTS2500I Model 3's just for info. They made a remark on the radio one of the days that a site was at Doughton Park and wanted all radio traffic to stop on this repeater and Fishers site for a Med Helicopter to land.

Thanks. I've got one more update to post and I'll do the same in the VA forum and see if we can finally get these NAC/DPLs confirmed for a few sites. I think there was a mix up in DPL & NAC because of the frequency sharing; in other words, we have the DPL for one site & NAC for another site posted as the same site. I think I've found the proper site codes after reviewing who's closest to what site when they heard them. So starting from north and moving south:

SITE / FREQUENCY / DPL / NAC
Rocky Mtn. 172.7250 025 DPL & NAC 160
Apple Orchard Mtn. 172.7500 ??? DPL & NAC 160
Poor Mtn. 173.7625 031 DPL & NAC 150
Grassy Hill 172.7500 ??? DPL & NAC ???
Fishers Pk. 172.4500 032 DPL & NAC 150
Doughton Park 172.7500 ??? DPL & NAC ???
Rich Mtn. (Watauga Co.) 173.7625 ??? DPL & NAC ???
Clingmans Pk. 172.7250 051 DPL & NAC 120
Mt. Pisgah 172.7500 065 DPL & NAC 110
Cowee Bald 173.7625 ??? DPL & NAC ???

My list obtained from good sources does not include a repeater site on Clingmans Peak, but there is one on Mt Mitchell. So could your Clingmans Peak info possibly be that of Mt Mitchell?

You're right, I'm not entirely sure why I put Clingman's Pk. I probably got mixed up with the VIPER site on Clingman's. I have heard them say "You're good on Mitchell", so you're right.
