To get to Dallas, NC from Mocksville (same for Winston-Salem), it really won't matter if you skirt through NW Charlotte (I40W to I77S to I85S to US-321N), southern Hickory (I40W to US321S) as far as distance and time goes as each route are very close, although Hickory is just a hair bit faster. The issue with going through Charlotte will be traffic..... If you are coming from Greensboro, like me, you won't have any choice but to go through Charlotte unless you want to go on a long Saturday morning drive.
From Mocksville or Winston-Salem, I would go to Dallas via Hickory.

Talk-In for the Shelby Hamfest @ Dallas is 146.880 (-) and 147.120 (+)
The 444.225 MHz repeater is also "across the street" from the hamfest and provides wide-area coverage in Gaston County. PL 110.9
Hope this is another successful year for the hamfest. It's usually a good one.

Thanks Derreck... for the info. I did use 147.120 last year, works well.
I will be on the 444.225 repeater this year, I like UHF better.
Anyone planning some kind of get together for a dinner somewhere Saturday evening?

Pete,
Good place on 321 south, the other side of Gastonia, named Market Street.
Good food, lots of room and all you can eat. $10.
Sign me up if it's happening.

Buffet tables.
Pig, cow, fish.
Several tables of veggies.
Lots of desserts.
Kind of like a Golden Corral, but a WHOLE hell of a lot better.
Locally owned.

Yay!
I wonder if I can hit my club's repeater which is in Level Cross, 145.25 (W4GG, 88.5 PL)
Great repeater. I know I've used it as far south as Charlotte without too much problem so I would assume it works in Dallas, NC.

I have worked that repeater well into SC so that should be no problem.
