Ellis-
Welcome to Radioreference.com! Good to have you with us. The Pro 2050 is an analog only scanner which means that you should be able to monitor anything labeled with an "A" for Analog in the mode column in the VIPER database listing. You will not be able to monitor the "D" for Digital talkgroups. All you would need to do is program the VIPER site(s) nearest to you. A word of future caution: VIPER will soon begin going through rebanding which means that sometime in the future the Pro 2050 will not be able to monitor VIPER once it has been rebanded. At some point down the road you will probably want to consider upgrading to a digital capable scanner.
Hope this helps!
Happy Monitoring

Yep the BCT-15 will handle the analog traffic on VIPER after rebanding however you are still limited by the fact that you can only monitor analog comms on that radio. Future plans call for VIPER to be all digital down the road. Don't worry it won't happen tomorrow but down the road a digital radio will be needed to continue to monitor VIPER.

could be the static is digital, however, ----- is either scanning in ID Search mode or you do not have ID's programmed. Your comment indicates possibly the latter.

As Marshall indicated, program only those ID numbers with A under Mode.

Yep. Really you could get away with only programming the D6 (Troop D, District 6) Talkgroups in as D6 is Asheboro but you will hear more activity if you program in all of the TGIDs.
