Richard-- Received your PMs thanks
How are you liking your 2006 so far? I hope it is still performing like a champ.
Mine I love and would not sell or trade it for any other radio.
Here is a pic from the other evening showing my city issued XTS5K, my 2006 and my HomePatrol HP-1

Happy Monitoring!

Soon I will be changing out the backlight on mine and if all goes well once I am done
and confident that all went well then we might be able to work on yours together and
get her back running. Damn shame to have a radio that nice and not be able to use it.

Changing out the backlight is pretty straight forward, makes it seem like a brand new radio. I purchased 4 of them brand new from R/S, and have since purchased 3 more used - replaced the backlight on all of them.

The first one I replaced the backlight on has been used so much that it needs it again. I am thinking of trying an LED solution this time. I saw one done with LEDs a while ago, it was awesome!

You may have seen this already, but check this link and go to page 59.

Marshall, my 2006 receives better than my PRO-2096 by a long shot. Very sensitive. I like the freq range it has also. I programmed in my own search ranges. I printed out some mods I found online and will be doing some. The backlight in mine still works ok. I think it was not used much, as it was in the RS box when I got it, with the paperwork still inside. No mods were done either to it. The audio is really nice too. I can hear VHF high band transmissions from Camden County to the north, Edgecomb County to the West and New Bern to the south of me with no problem (using a discone antenna up around 40 ft). Good thing most agencies on my end are on non trunking radios still. This way I use the 2096 for all trunked systems now and reserve the 2006 for the older radio systems.

I am in Durham until Saturday morning (again).

Next trip will be early December if you want to get together.

These were modified to the max. I have 2: one with OptoScan456lite and the other with Bill Cheeks computer interface along with a few more mods. Have you checked if this unit has any mods yet?

Only mod so far is the now useless 800Mhz AMPS cellular mod.
Sooner or later I will replace the display and also try to pick up a OS456 on the
secondary market. Right now I am just enjoying having it here in the shack
Happy Monitoring

So I actually went and looked at this and actually looked at all the catalogs from the mid 80's up. Really nice trip down memory lane. I miss the old woodgrain look on the scanners, LOL
