Default Uptown Charlotte New Years - no scanners allowed

The city has declared New Years Eve an "Extraordinary Event", and there is a long list of prohibited items uptown tonight, including specifically, police scanners.

Eh then whats the point of a scanner out there anyway you would think if everythibg is going to be secure/encrypted and you couldnt listen at all, then they wouldnt say anything to anybody about a scanner.

An intoxicated young lady might think a scanner qualifies you as a plain clothes officer. Sad, but I have heard of a whacker showing up at bars and attempting this. But, more likely, a crowd is easier to control if it has less information. Then again, when you're wearing scanner colored glasses everything looks like it's aimed at you, although a broken clock is right twice a day too.

If you show up to an event carrying something that is expressly prohibited, you won't gain entry. Simple as that.

You can sling laws and technicalities all you want, but what does that matter when the event will be over in a few hours?

Head downtown and enjoy the fun and leave the radios at home and save everyone the trouble. Take a cellphone if you really need to keep in touch with friends or family.

Well, I wonder how many outlaw scanner possessors were arrested and incarcerated in Charlotte last night. Sounded like a real threat to the event.

Geez....

Next year, stay safe, stay home and enjoy the excitement on the radio from afar.

Did they confiscate all bottles, back packs, body armor, pepper spray, and duffel bags?

Did they strip search everyone looking for marbles or BBs?

Did they pat everyone down looking for bazookas?

What was the dog story? ' Dogs are illegal but you can walk them without being arrested '. What does that mean? ????????

FCC PR Docket 91-36 refers to states that HAD scanner laws in place and dealt with amateur radio equipment that could receive police communications. Has nothing to do with allowing an amateur to carry a scanner or amateur radio into an area that forbids it.
