Welcome. Make sure you get the premium membership here and use FREESCAN. You'll be glad you did. Makes programming sooooo much easier.

Happy scanning.

David,
Welcome to the forum. I am in Mitchell County and right down the road from you on Bear Creek. I have the BCD396T and it works great. Be sure to get an 800 MHZ antenna with your scanner because the stock antenna does not pick up the towers the best in the world in our part of the county.

The Uniden DESTROYS the GRE scanners in terms of user ability. Its not even close.

I had to send my GRE back it was so complicated to just punch in a conventioal frequency.

Both GRE and Uniden scanners have their pluses and minuses.
It all comes down to which brand offers the features that the user
wishes to use on a daily basis.
Kind of like the age old "Coke vs Pepsi" debate: some folks prefer Coke,
Some folks prefer Pepsi.
Both manufacturers have great radios on the market.

If you are used to Unidens, then GRE will be foreign.
If you are used to GREs then Uniden will be foreign.
Just because you haven't used a GRE doesn't mean Uniden destroys anything.

On my GRE PSR-500, it is SO difficult to program a conventional frequency I just don't do it. To program 154.28 into the scanner, I press TUNE 1 5 4 . 2 8 ENT and I am listening. It took me all of 5 seconds to do that.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the GRE vs. Uniden argument will get this thread locked before any useful information can be exchanged.

Hello David. Welcome to RR, it's good to have you aboard. The 396XT is an awesome scanner and I hope you get years of enjoyment from it.

We have lots of knowledgeable members here that will help answer any questions you may have, so just ask.
