Default Duke Power/Pike Electric

OK, more questions from the beginner.....

I'm trying to listen to Duke Power and Pike Electric field techs/dispatch as it would come in handy in my present job. I've tried doing some research on RR and FCC databases. I get multiple hits for Duke, and one for Pike, but to be honest, I'm not entirely sure what to do with this information. Basically, I'm just looking to be pointed in the right direction with some guidance so I can do this type of search in the future on my own.

As far as other organizations go (FD, PD, etc) I've got those down, since all I did was pull the info from here to ARC246 and put it on the scanner. But when it comes to building a group from scratch, I dont really know where to start, so any help would be appreciated (once again).

Thanks in advance
Brian

EDIT -- Sorry, meant to specify for Charlotte/Meck

Brian,
Duke Power has several trunked sites throughout both Carolinas. I think there are a few around Charlotte/Mecklenburg. There is some info in the RRDB for the Duke TRS. You will get a good bit of activity during day time hours. You may want to do a FCC search for them and look for license designator YO for trunked freqs. Maybe this will help.

Most Duke Power licenses are not listed under that name. If you can find one controller and look up the freq on the FCC database then you could locate the name. Here in the Greenville area there are at least 6 tower sites. Program a local controller. Run in "search" or "open" mode and log the ID's The "J" units will be Pike or other contractors. Most of service is transmitted to MDT's and radio comms is limited. Only during an ICE storm can you gather good data. It has taken me a very long time to get just a small amount of local info. I can email to you direct the local data.

Thanks, I would definitely appreciate the email. As far as finding a local controller, how would I go about doing that... is there an easy way to do it?

While I'm not familiar with the BC246T, try doing a search of the 800 mhz frequencies for control channels. Then look up the freqs in the FCC database. It may take some time to weed out public safety agencies. I beleive most of Duke's freqs fall in the 854 to 860 range. Good luck.
