Does anyone know whats up with 42.600? My scanners lock on this frequency and all I hear is a hiss like someone is 'dead' keying.

Darn good question, I live about 10 miles of Greensboro and observed the same thing happening yesterday morning (Friday).

What I'm more curious about is with Lo-Band nearly on the way out, how many station monitors and field units (DOT and DOC included) still may have the capability to use / operate same?

Here in the western end of the state I still receive SHP on both 42.500 and 42.600. It may be some time before they completely leave the low band because of the mountains. Stone Mountain State Park still uses 159.420 because Viper is not accessible everywhere in the park.
