Default Trip to Rockingham, NC yesterday(Richmond County)

I travelled down US 1 through Sanford, Southern Pines, and Moore County eventually ending up in Rockingham, NC. Brought along all the radios, Pro 2096 scanner, UHF Maxtrac 32 channel, Icom V8000 VHF, VHF Maxtrac 32 channel, LOWband Maxtrac 42-54mhz. Once I was past Southern Pines Viper ran dry....LOWband Highway Patrol was VERY active on all channels, could receive Elizabethtown, Monroe, Salisbury, Raleigh, and Greensboro all very well. I noticed UHF frequencies in Lee, Chatham, Moore, and Richmond counties were where all the action was. I monitored several NC Forestry calls on 151.190, plows and aircraft headed to Troy in Montgomery County. All of Moore County and it's municipalities were on UHF as was almost all of Richmond County with the exception of Richmond County fire which was still using Low band! I was quite surprised to find that I could receive Cary's 800 mhz systenm very well all the way from Southern Pines. I also programmed in South Carolina's 800mhz statewide system & could receive quite a bit of traffic through the Bennettsville, SC site. Looks like Viper still has quite a ways to go to cover the south & eastern parts of the state......next trip will be Outer Banks/Dare & Currituck Counties in a couple more weeks!

Charles, I was passing thru Rockingham today also for a meeting with ScanDaBands in Lumberton. We could have gotten together and compared notes.
You're right, VIPER along US 74 is almost non-existence.
The low-band was very busy.
The NCHP was working US 74 east of Rockingham pretty hard.
My trusty SOLO2 got a workout.

hey, Blinddog50! Yes, I'm down that way about every 3 weeks, maybe we can meet up somewhere down there on one of our trips! I can't wait for the Nags Head/Outer Banks trip in 2 weeks, getting all the radios ready......

That was a one time trip thru that area.
I was in Lumberton to buy a bcd396t from ScanDaBands.
If you ever have the opportunity to buy from him, he's a fun guy to meet and a great person to deal with.

I used to drive thru that area a couple of times a week years and years ago when I worked part-time for Brinks.

It sure has changed a lot!

Default Moore County Resident

Nice to hear of someone else monitoring my area too. I live in Carthage (The County Seat of Moore County). I originally grew up and lived in the Cameron area for forty some years. My wife and myself moved to Carthage about 2 years ago. I have been monitoring scanners for about 20 years. Mostly I monitor Moore County. When I lived in Cameron, I would listen to Moore, Lee & Harnett. My scanner goes with me almost everywhere. I listen to it all day at my job in Southern Pines.
Anyway, next time passing thru, give me a shout and maybe we can meet for a burger or something. I am not much of a coffee drinker, but I can find something cold to drink.

Rod,
Yeah I used to make money deliveries to Carthage.
I would catch the banks there after finishing in Southern Pines and Seven Lakes.
I always loved seeing the old houses(mansions) in town.

But I'm a urban(Charlotte) kind of guy.
I love seeing Carthage, but I couldn't live there.

Default Carthage

Carthage is City Life from where I come from. I used to have to drive 15 minutes just to get to a grocery store. Now I am only half-a-mile and loving it. I like visiting cities like Charlotte and Fayetteville, but I don't think I would like living there. I guess it is just what ever you get used to.
