Default No Scanners at WoW2017?

The Wings Over Wayne website says no scanners. https://www.wingsoverwayneairshow.co...-leave-at-home Is this new for 2017?

When I called the SJAFB Public Affairs Office number on the WoW website (919-722-0027), I was told, very politely, "Because the Comms Unit said so." So I guess you can sit in your car in the parking lot and listen to your scanner, or go watch the airshow without it.

I don't think I have ever been to an airshow where I couldn't bring a scanner. Can anyone thing of a decent reason why they are banned from this one?

It's a broad, pandemic response to post 911 era (homeland security) yet it is not thoughtfully considered. One could sit outside the base, and listen to 406 Trunk System or other coms...

Yea from what I've read around most bases they don't allow any radio equipment on base. I can understand this to a degree BUT some of it is a bit over kill

Operations are on Viper Events Delta 1 & Delta 2 for the Air Show. Also several talkgroups on the Wayne P25 LSM System are being used.

That's a plausible explanation, and if they'd said that I would have accepted it. But they didn't.

It was a good show but I missed listening to the pilots (I'm less interested in the ops frequencies).

Thanks for the feedback.

I was allowed to bring in my scanner, as were others at today's show (Saturday) they saw it in my backpack with my water and didn't say anything. Parking was so far away I was unable to pickup the Air Boss freq until I got inside the event.

On Sunday at Wings Over Wayne Air Show, at Seymour Johnson AFB, they told me I wasn't supposed to bring in a sandwich, but said nothing about my scanner. Used it freely throughout the day and caught some good comms. This was the first time I'd tried the record function on my TRX-1.

Talk Groups for the SJAFB system are above, again today the CC was 407.1625, also heard several listed in the RR database. Aircraft freqs are listed below:

Blue Angels heard Saturday and Sunday using:
Ground 139.8125 FM
Comm Cart 142.6125 FM
Air to Grnd 305.9 (usually Bert freq but Bert was in maintenance and not at show, told ERNIE wasn't demo certified)
Start up 251.6
Solos 237.8
Box 284.25
Diamond 275.35

Heritage Flight and Lima Lima Flight Demos
123.15

F-22 Raptor Demo Team
376.025

F-15 4th Fighter Wing Air to Air
301.125

Royal Canadian Air Force CF-18 Demonstration Team
263.5

All other aircraft and jet truck used the Air Boss freq 126.25 (KGSB Twr Freq)
