Angry Radio Shack

I just arrived home from my local radio shack store which is in the Toledo market. I was looking for simple PL-256 connectors that I figured was not going to be to hard to find. Going into the store around opening time, they were not busy and was met at the door by a salesperson. I asked for the connectors and was told that Radio Shack is no longer stocking "radio stuff" in all of their stores. He said that only selected stores would be stocking these parts.

If this person is right, how has a store like Radio Shack went down so quickly? I understand that the demand is not as high as TV sales; but, ITS RADIO SHACK! I worked in the Toledo market about 12 years ago when the stores even had amateur equipment and scanners that were turned on for people to hear.

So they will not be stocking a $3.00 item; but, I would bet they will all have the new top dollar scanner equipment with out anyone that knows how to use them.

I appologize for my rant, I figured someone else here could appreciate it. Looks like it is mostly internet orders now for these parts. If there is someone here from Radio Shack that can correct this information, please do so. This was coming from two people in the same store.

Bob

I have found it very hard as well to get common parts for radios, parts to make computer cables and other electronic supplies as I have in the past at Radio Shack. They seem to be more interested in selling TV'S and Cell phones

FWIW: More and more of my fellow hams refer to it now as "Rat Shack", perhaps because it doesn't deserve the original, honored, old name "Radio Shack" that reflected the origin of that term in ships and later, in backyards, etc.

Or maybe RAT stands for Recorders And Telephones.?? :-)

Hello all. I am an employee of RS in the Toledo Market. Yes, it is true that inventory on select items are now only going to be available at certain locations. As far as the radio parts such as conectors and cabling, should be available at most the strip store but not the mall stores. I think that the company is just trying to maximize use of sales space at the stores. I have my own opinions on this but that is besides the point. Just remember, even if your local store doesn't have it, they can still order. Always have them check Direct2U. If it is available, then you can get it shipped right to you for NO extra charge. The same item on the website can get free shipping to the store but not directly to your home. And as a side note, there are still a few of us left that know something about radios at RadioShack.

That is good to hear that a radio enthusiast is still working at RS. I was there for a little over a year and there were about 3 stores that had amateurs in them. I had the usual customers, which were also amateur/scanner enthusiast. In your opinion, what stores can follow through with the "you have questions, we have answers" slogan. This might be good to know for the group in case that odd part is needed for the next project.

Also, thanks for the reply so we could confirm this rumor.

Well, you can always see me at BG (Woodland Mall) or the guys at Reynolds are good too. The mangers at any of them should be able to answer anything. ;-) Everybody has their own specialties. I like to think that most everybody knows who to ask or call if their not sure about something. BTW the new slogan is "Buy Stuff to DO Stuff"
