Default Guernsey County OSP

I know that you have to have a digital scanner to listen to the OSP here. I have a triple trunking scanner. Still to this day I have not really programed it, nor have I really learned about it. Can someone tell me what I need to do to program the digital to listen to them? Im willing to buy one if I can get the step by step instructions on how to program.
Thanks.

Get the scanner and there are plenty of people here that will walk you through it.

Step by step instructions are dependent upon the scanner, and programming MARCS is not an easy step-by-step thing unless (a) you have an RR subscription and (b) you have obtained a program like PSREdit, Win500, ARC###, etc. to download the information and program your scanner with it.

To manually do it is something some of us can do because we have used the scanners for a while, but for somebody not familiar with the current crop of scanners you would probably pull your hair out trying to "manually" program the scanner.

If I were you, and if I were planning on buying a digital scanner, I would also plan on purchasing an RR subscription and obtaining software in order to facilitate the programming of the MARCS system and other systems in your area.

After reading what I've said, if you still feel you would like to have step by step instructions before you even purchase a scanner, I'd advise you to think again. If you get a new scanner, you need to delve into the book and learn how to operate the scanner if you want to do anything step-by-step (manually). And then, once you have the scanner in hand, ask for some step by step instructions

Incidentally, the owners/operators manual for all of the digital scanners is available online - just go to the Radioreference Wiki ( Main Page - The RadioReference Wiki ) and type in the model of scanner you want to obtain a manual for (ex: BCD996T, PRO-197).

I have no problem with buying a RR account.

Hi Leasure,

FWIW you don't need to "buy" a RR account to program your scanner. Having a RR account only gives you the ability to automatically import the data to program the scanner. You can still add it manually.

Not trolling for a seller but there is a PRO-197 for sale in the classifieds on this website for around $300.00. That would be a good radio for you to take a look at.

MARCS works well with the older PRO-96/2096 radios too so if you could find one of them at a lesser price that would give you an opportunity to get your feet wet listening to MARCS. You don't have the ability to manage memory space as well with those radios though.

Post 30 (Cambridge) is a pretty busy post so you hear lots of activity if you were to purchase a digital capable scanner.

I don't know which route you have taken or are going to take in regards to a digital scanner but the newer scanners have so many features that it can get very confusing and hard to operate and for listening to OSHP, the older digital radios will work just fine ...

my recommendation would be to get a pro 2096 or a pro 96 ( depending on if u want a mobile or a base unit) and then get the RR subscription.... then go to starrsoft.com and buy "win96" and you can pretty much do everything automatically and it is not only simple, it is fun...

then again if you dont wanna buy a digital scanner, you can just listen to the left channel of my online feed because Cambridge post comes in quite often....

also if you have never dealt with digital radio communications, you will find that they sound totally different than normal radio traffic and in my (and many others') opinion the radioshack and GRE scanners have SUPERIOR digital audio over the uniden models..... in fact, the unidens digital output sounds muffled and crappy!

the only bad thing about the pro 96 and 2096 is that they will not recieve i-calls....
