Mornin' Folks. For those Stark county listeners the county's trunking site seems to be down. There has been alot of talk about the county merging their system with Canton's. Right now I'm hearing no activity from the county's frequencies. I do hear the Sheriff on TG 41520 (analog) on Canton's site. I don't know what the reason the county's is down but I'm looking forward to a single system. If anyone knows what's going on I'm anxious to find out!

Merging the sites would certainly help me. I can get the county site, but not Canton, from my Akron home. Does your reception quality seem to be affected (positive or negative)?

From Louisville, I can pick up both just fine. When I'm working in Massillon, Canton's site isn't so good. Right now Canton sounds the same as before. I've read in the past that they were going to merge once the frequencies were re-banded. So I've also been searching for new frequencies in the 700/800 band.

I'm not allowed to see that particular page... :( But I have been watching that stuff pretty closely. They have been debating on a countywide dispatch center and all agencies within the county to join the radio system as well. Some departments are not in favor for the switch but I guess only time will tell.

The county's control channel seems to be up again. The voice freqs are transmitting, but with no audio. Do you think they are testing? I know I read somewhere that the individual systems are 6 freqs each, and they were going to create a 12 freq system.

Does that mean if you can pick up the Stark County towers you will be able to hear Canton traffic on them also?

Canton PD is encrypted. At times you can hear channel 3 and the "freeway" channel. You won't be able to hear anything on the two main channels.

Folks, it appears they have merged the two systems together. 868.4000 seems to be the CC. The TG's are the same, maybe with the addition of a few new ones. They do seem to be experiencing low audio when they transmit, they are having some trouble hearing each other.

Thanks for the heads up Jon. I can usually pick up the Stark site from my location, but not the Canton site. I'll see if I can pick up any Canton City traffic on the .400 control channel today.

My pleasure. I've been waiting for the merge ever since they first mentioned it. All of the frequencies are the same, along with the TG's, they just moved everything over to the .400 cc. If anyone else has any additional info let us know and I'll post any additional TG's. I have read in the Repository that Perry Twp FD may be dispatched by Canton and Louisville will be dispatched by Canton by the end of the month, not sure if either will go on the 800 though.

As for new TG's, how can you determine who they are? I have a list of them but I just don't hear enough of the traffic to know who they are. Most sound like public works. Any pointers?

Just an update / more information for the folks monitoring this thread. I have been running Trunk88 on the 868.400 control channel for the last several days and so far have found about 50 new talk groups which aren't in the RR DB...

Trunk88 is showing that the Canton site controller/control channel is in FailSoft mode, the county tower automatically took everything over...

If you hear something on any of these talkgroups, post something back here, and it will help to identify these new ones and their uses, it will be greatly appreciated.

I did hear on Canton Fire 1 and another TG that CanComm (Canton City Dispatch) was installing new CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) software, and they were testing the tone functions.

I also have heard on several TG's "Radio Service Test 1 2 3"...

I did speak with a buddy that works at CanComm and another buddy who works for B & C Communications in Akron (The system managers) and they both stated that both Louisville Police and Fire will move full time to 800mhz with CanComm dispatch on July 1st. They also stated that due to some "merger" that the canton site controller had went down, and that it should be back up within 1 or 2 weeks.

As stated above my post, Perry Twp has been talking about it for a while now also, but have yet to set anything in stone.

Here is the full list I have so far of new/unknown talkgroups...

Yeah I know what you mean.... :)

BTW, within the past 3 hours or so, I am 75% sure that 41264 is Canton City Parks Dept. or related to the Parks in the city.

Heard lots of traffic relating to several different parks, unlocking of gates, resetting breakers at a shelter, etc.

I am gonna take a guess here and say that the new TG's in the low range (272, 304, etc) are Canton PD, due to the fact that they are encrypted and that the range of radio ID's that are showing up on them are PD radios (1400 range). I hope they remove the encryption entirely soon, have heard talks about them removing it by 2012 or 2013 from several people inside the department... These have to be either TAC/OPS or something related to ADMIN, the Courts, etc... Of course we will never know for certain...

Edit: Just now heard on 41168 "building 5 to building 9, talked to repair and that is not potable water leaking", still unknown use, thats the first I've ever heard it...
