Just picked-up a PD unit conducting a traffic stop on this TG, infront of an address on the Pepper Pike / Hunting Valley Border.

Just heard TG 14492 dispatch car 4911. That is Moreland Hills. By the way, thanks to all the DB admins for the hard work they do. Newbies like myself would be lost without the excellent work they do to keep the RadoReference database up to date.

I haven't checked, but is anyone streaming this system as part of the RR live feeds? If not, any members plan to include the system?

Works great on my real Motorola radio (which it's designed for). In fact, I'm getting better coverage with the digital than with analog.
Please keep in mind that it's not designed for scanners; in fact, the designers couldn't care less about scanners.

Works OK for me on my PSR-500. A little noisy at times but overall great considering this is hobby listening.

Out of curiosity...what would be one design factor (in layman's terms!) meant for performance on a real radio, but might cause subpar performance on a scanner?

Well I won't be monitoring this system any more. Some transmissions are perfectly fine and others are completely unintelligible. Even sequential transmissions on the same TG can change state from good to bad or visa versa. Most of the users on this system I don't need to monitor anyway. Down the road is a different story. We shall see.

Scanners don't have all of the error correction and other extras in the codec that the 'real' radios do. Someday I expect they will be better able to handle the LSM simulcast stuff better, but for now it is what it is.

The state of Ohio, has filed an application to add more 700 MHz sites to the new MARCS P25 system. More information is available on the FCC Web site:

I have two questions. Will anyone be still using the old Lake County system or can it now be safely removed from my scanners?
Does the activity occurring next Monday mean that scanner users have to change all the site frequencies for MARCS by then and change the system setting to P25?

I can't answer that authoritatively, but I'd suggest that you not remove the system from your scanner until you yourself have confirmed no more activity on it for a period of time [perhaps a few weeks or a month].

The activity occurring next Monday requires no changes on the scanner. Site frequencies at various sites are not changing [at this time]. Eventually, the sites will be rebanded and people will need to modify frequencies in their various MARCS sites, but not now, not next week.

I agree with Mtindor, cannot speak authoritatively,,,, but I can tell you that someone I know who is a city employee for Willougby has had a replacement radio with the new P25 installed in their car and listening to Police talking, during the switch over they were told to go to the new bands, the old was were no longer being used. I heard a couple different cities tell the officers this on the old system. Might be wise to keep the old for a few to be sure but myself, I cleaned them out and have the new system in its place.

I listened to the former Lake County system earlier this week, and there was no activity on it - none - for about 5-10 minutes, which is unheard of.
That was proof enough for me - I got rid of the former system and listen exclusively now on MARCS P25.
Edit: to be safe, and if you have a PSR-500...you could always keep the former system in a V Scanner folder.

lake vs cuy talk groups
TG 27508 Metro Parks PD
TG 27550 Willoughby Hills FD
TG 27505 Kirtland/ MOL/ LCC PD
TG 27502 Willoghby Hills PD
All above heard on the Cuy side of this system.
Thinking all above are in range of the Cuy System.
One to watch is 14498 Mentor Fire Dept. (NEW)..

I noticed the exact same thing and thought it was quite strange. I am also able to pick up Willoughby Hills Fire 1A on the Cuyahoga side, but not Willoughby Fire dispatch.
How sure are you that 14498 is Mentor Fire? I'm not saying you are wrong, but those numbers match up with Cuyahoga TG's. I had hits today on 14490, 14495, and 14498, but picked up no voice.
