Does anyone know, if Lake County has done anything to the system that would explain why my PSR 800 reception has improved at all?
The originally installed antennas were the wrong ones and improperly installed and they may have finaly got them repaired.

Lake's P-25 System is finicky. Yesterday I drove down to Kirtland and monitored the Obama visit. While sitting in the Kirtland Library parking lot I played with the 800's settings to see what would happen. For the most part the default 800 settings worked as well as any. But the moment I moved South back towards Geauga County the signal started to deteriorate. So I stopped at Rt 306 & Mayfield and put my suggested change back in and the reception improved quite a bit. As you move around both Lake and Cuyahoga's P-25 System gives different results. There is no perfect setting to deal with these two systems. Just something we have to live with when mobile. Base is different. I cannot monitor Lake at my house but Cuyahoga I receive. It all has to do with System Towers.

Thanks guys!

Has anyone tried a outdoor antenna yet, to see if that gets better reception? Like to know, before I buy one and go threw all the trouble of installing one.

No way to assure it will work one way or the other. But if someone has one high and outside they may work ok but yours won't.

Brian,

It depends on what issue you have with reception and what type of antenna you plan on putting up.

If you get garbled transmissions, then the possible fix is to put up a beam antenna. You'd have to point it at the closest tower. But, that option only works for monitoring one system.

If you put up an omni directional antenna, things will probably be worse. With P25 simulcast systems, more signal from multiple towers is usually a very bad thing for scanner users.

Thanks Bud, that explains it better than my simplistic attempt to answer.

And remember the simple things! "ATTENUATOR"I purchesed 1/2in Hardline and a Highend Yagi and installed it and still could not hear the systems I wanted to monitor. All because I live close to a cell tower and it was overloading the frontend of my scanner.

For Lake County 800 mhz P25, my roof-mounted discone antenna supplies a strong signal. Audio is usually OK but is sometimes garbled. I'm closest to the Wickliffe tower. Where are the other Lake County 800 mhz P25 towers anyway? Thought that info was in the DB but can't find it now.

Thanks Bud!

I still can't figure out why my Uniden BC296D comes in perfectly clear with the original antenna, but my PSR 800 still has issues at times. Why would one scanner have such awesome reception, while a newer scanner so far, cant compete with my old one?

One more thing, does anyone own Unidens Home Patrol Scanner? Just wondering how the reception is on it?

Thanks again, Brian

This has been discussed in the military air circles regarding reception. Newer scanners likely have much more front-end processing than ones made 10+ years ago. So the older scanners effectively have better ears. Signals are signals, so this could apply to digital trunking too.

Default Having proplem with HP-1 and the Marcs IP system

Last week I finally got the updated firmware in to sentinal did the data base update and was able to scan the new Marcs IP system in Lake/Cuyagoga. It worked real well. I did another db update last night and seem to lose it. When I check to see if its listed system display it is not. When I use my favorite list its there but not working. I tried re-intstalling the sentinal sofware but get a long error message i have insufficient privleges to modify the file... Any ideas or is there something I can check. I really enjoyed listening to the new system

In looking over those new transmitter locations that I posted, a few of those 700 MHz sites are in the Akron-Canton area. Does anyone know how far along the MARCS technicians are with either building them, or adding new antennas to existing sites? Likewise, does anyone have a time frame as to when they will go live?
