OK. I'm receiving the "Shalersville" site on 773.58125 MHz with SID:0348h-0220.

The RRDB sez 020 not 022 ????

0220 = Zone 2, Site 20

Maybe I'm confused by your comment, but the Shalersville site (Ohio Turnpike) to the newly discovered Rootstown (NEOCOM university) tower is more like 10-miles.

OK. It really doesn't concern me except as a matter of interest what the deal is with Shalersville and Roostown. Sort of like the Beachwood, Highland Hills, Warrensville Hts site situation we discussed previously.

The RRDB doesn't list many TDs in Portage on the IP system. I have in the past gotten the OSP patch TG probably out of Ravenna? I'm scanning in search mode on that system.

I get many hits out of Portage Co. on the original MARCS. That site is much stronger than the Portage IP site. Are they at the same location?

Yes, you are right, but my intial search gave me the wrong info. That was going to be an edit to my post way back there but it got lost somehow.

~~~
Better southern coverage. But I can't hear it here in NE Summit Co.
Appears it's not a new discovery at all:
Unidentified/New MARCS-IP Talkgroups
Now this begs the question, for traditional legacy MARCS 800 coverage in Portage County, it's primarily the Shalersville, Salem and Richfield sites? No additional "old MARCS" site at NEOCOM campus?
Guys and gals,
I cant' say how long RF has been spewing from the new Rootstown IP site, but as a general rule you aren't going to find it if you don't look for it.
So many people depend upon the database to determine if a new site is online. That's foolish. Use the search mode on your scanner.
1. Except for key areas where existing 800 mhz frequencies are being re-used on MARCS, the vast majority of IP sites will be 700 mhz.
2. The frequencies on the individual FCC licenses aren't guaranteed to be the ones you'll find MARCS-IP control channels on
MARCS also has a blanket license for 700 Mhz access. Many many [did i say many] of the sites already online do/did use frequencies covered under the blanket license even though there were site-specific frequencies already licensed.
So, when you are bored, why don't you learn how to use the Search feature in your scanner and scan between 768-775 Mhz. You might be surprised. You might hear nothing. You might find control channels for some other system that isn't documented. You might find already-documented control channels. But, guess what -- you might actually discover a new site online that nobody else is aware of yet.
So how about letting your fingers do the walking periodically and search 768-775 Mhz for P25 control channels not previously documented on RR. You'd get a real kick out of it, and [if you shared it] the whole community would benefit.
Get er done!
Mike
Ed,
If you're on RR posting nonconstructive sarcasm, I guess you are bored. [yeah i'm posting, but I already took 2 minutes out of my day and scanned 768-775 mhz -- nothing new to report from Jefferson Co].
You can do. I have faith in you buddy.
Mike
PS: My post was meant for all who read this thread, thus the whole "guys / gals" thing. Nothing wrong with encouraging people to help out.
Nope, not bored, just agitating you...
Actually I did a search and found nothing useful. In fact I didn't find KNOWN active CCs. Maybe step size. I'll try it again when I'm bored.
Mike,
I depend on the database and crowd based discovery of the system here in this forum. I can't always get down to Rootstown, but now it will be nice when I travel through that area this weekend to know it exists.
ROFL. Ok man. Just bustin each others you-know-what's I guess. Odd that you aren't able to pick it up. Don't know exactly where you are at, but ya certainly ought to if you are close by.
Then again, if it is newly online, it may be up and down for configuration / testing.
You're right -- I guess I should have said "you should not rely solely upon the database to know if a new site is online." The database is an extremely useful and convenient tool, not to be overlooked.
But [to others reading] I still highly recommend periodic scanning of the 700 mhz swath where one would find trunked systems, because you may find a happy surprise one day.
