The problem is when they switch to a new digital system or to summit akron system i won't be able to hear them no more because vhf signals come in better than 800 mhz digital does. and i can't even hear summit akron system wear i am. which is going to be a downfall for me.

You should be able to hear Akron / Summit system from Ravenna .. may need a different antenna.
The Akron / Summit system can be utilized by any community in Summit, Portage, Medina, Wayne or Cuyhoaga (per the documentation regarding the system). I know I've been east of Hartville in the past and had no problem monitoring the TG's.

Tallmadge, Munroe Falls and Mogadore are going to the Akron/Summit System. They are going to use Motorola XTS 2500's for portables. They will keep Tricom as dispatch. Got a good price on the Motorolas as EF Johnson was bidding and Motorola matched their prices. Going with the 2500's is good insurance against encryption. The only TG's they will have with Akron Fire will be mutual aid TG's. They will not have Akron Fire Fireground TG's (e.g. Bat 2).

When will the new system be online? The reason i think i can't pick the akron summit system is because right near my house are tower power lines that i think are in the way of the signal from coming in or either i am to far away from akron and summit to hear them.

The system has been online for years. It's all a matter of time before those agencies join the system.
Maybe try an outdoor antenna, that might help with reception.

Who knows, and why is it so important that you specifically ask that question? They're not really a critical part of the system. They make little to no difference at all except from the standpoint of the individual user. Some like them, others don't; I know many police officers who can't stand them, and others who wouldn't be without one.

It already is; has been for at least a year.

Okay. Enough off-topic discussion. This thread can and will be closed if we don't get back to the topic at hand.
Thank you.

Don't know exactly when...but
I know for sure they bought their radio's. Friend of mine works for a local Volunteer Fire Dept which just switched to Summit County digital last week. While he was in getting their new radio's programmed, Munroe Falls was getting their's programmed too. I don't know the new talk group ID's yet. Tallmadge, Mogadore, and Munroe Falls will all be on the "new" system. Still dispatched by Tallmadge. As of yet, Stow is not going to this system. I know this isn't "new" since the actual system has been in operation for awhile. Hope everyone who listens to these have a digital scanner also.

Don't know a date
Don't have a sure date of when the switch will be. They are in the beginning process of testing them though. This past Friday evening, Dispatch was doing a series of "simulcast" tests for the fire tones. So it sounds like that they were testing both old and new. Don't know if they will continue this way or not. The fire may continue to be simulcast because of the pagers for the volunteers. Not sure. I know Valley Fire in Peninsula is still simulcasting after a few weeks.
