I still here hamilton county comm at 8 am on old 154935 leern, but does anyone monitor OSP Dayton Piqua Springfield dsit 5, or Post 49 Posts, for I 70 radio traffic on new LEERN and what TG are they using.Thnaks

Leern
LEERN is a high band interop system. What you heard in the past was a patch from 154.935 to the MARCS system. For several reasons the full time patches were dropped some time ago. There are dozens of interop TGs, but the name LEERN refers to the high band system.

In recent months, the transmissions of LEERN on 154.935 that I have received here in southwestern Ohio have sounded weak; almost as if they were coming from a long distance away. However, they do concern activities taking place in suburban Cincinnati.

They probably reduced trasmit power on the base stations during the narrow-banding process. I've noticed that quite a few transmitters which before were real screamers are now much less so. Add to that the lower level of the recovered audio due to the narrow-banding and they'll sound weak.
I can still hear Hamilton County pretty well through the local LEERN patch here in Columbus but it is noticeably less prominent than before.
If your scanner is capable of narrow band, make sure the conventional frequencies are all set for that; in theory they should all be narrow band as of 1/1/13.

Tom - It may still be Wide FM not NFM in the DB.. I have a recent download for my HP-1 and it did not have LEERN as NFM.

OK, I'll check and fix as needed.

I listen to LEERN every day at work. Don't notice any audio problems on our base receiver. BTW, all state owned transmitters on LEERN have been narrow band for quite some time. Not sure when the ones licensed to the state but operated by counties were narrow banded, but sure thaey have been. My own county one was done over a year ago ( and is the only one in the state licensed to a county instead of the state )

I was listening to the OSP AM tests through the local patch on my way to (and at) work today; copied districts 7, 8 and 9 but as noted in my earlier post they were all noticeably weaker than before narrow-banding took place, with a lot more static than there used to be.

The above statement is incorrect. Actually Champaign County AND Summit County are the only "counties" licensed for LEERN 154.9350.

Not sure why the license searches (both on RR and FCC) are inconsistently showing who has a license for 154.935 MHz.

KNIR361 is licensed to the State of Ohio not Franklin County.

That's new; it used to be licensed to Franklin County, but it's been so long since I paid any attention that I have no idea how long ago.

When you listen to Hamilton county do you listen on vhf freq or the Franklin County 800mhz talk group. I can't take the vhf noise so I listen to the tlkgrp it sounds clearer.

Only on the 800 MHz patch now. I used to be able to hear it from home reasonably well on VHF, but no longer.
