Default Programming Issue?

Admins feel free to move where needed.

I recently been having this issue with my uniden bct15 while on the franklin county public safety 800mjz trunked system. This only happens once every hour but police traffic is slipping through the other talk groups. This only happens late at night also. Ill put my scanner on the fire group with all groups locked out and randomly ill hear like a police tac channel on battalion 1 fireground. I don't know how it is possibly slipping through this just randomly started happening. It's quite interesting when it's quiet and you hear a police dispatching saying she's on tac 1 a and it says battalion 1 fire ground. I double checked programming and nothing has changed. Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks

Dispatcher is switching to the wrong TAC. That's what I'm thinking.

The police dispatchers cannot talk on fire channels even if they wanted to.

I monitor this system daily and have never seen this problem.

Are you sure you are not in search mode. You could also listen to the feed archives for the same transmissions.

Also if you are close to one of the tower sites it is possible you could get some bleed over.

The two settings that will cause this are:

1) Squelch set too low; and,
2) End Code Detect set to Ignore (or Off).

My squelch is very low that may be it. The radio is also not in search mode it's in scan. I ll hear a dispatcher on a fire channel and then the unit only if the tower is still transmitting. It's kind of odd. Also this scanner has been giving me problems since day one. The motorola end code only half works no matter where the squelch is.

That may be it it's only two miles from me and it only happens late at night.

If the signal is weak or subject to interference, the scanner can miss the end code, even if it is enabled. In that case, the scanner will return to the control channel when the carrier drops (i.e. when squelch closes). If the repeater is busy and the voice frequency is immediately assigned to another call with no carrier drop, then you'll hear that call. If squelch is set too low (too open), then you'd also hear the occasional burst of open-squelch static.

That's what I would think but the tower is very close and clear. And the end code will work fine but sometimes it will hang then cut off instead of using the end code. My 996xt has the same squelch settings and exact clone of the 15 and doesn't have this problem. I think is just getting old.
