Motorcycles return to Ohio State Highway Patrol
Memorial Day weekend not only marks the beginning of summer, but also the beginning of a new phase in traffic enforcement for the Ohio State Patrol. For the first time in 50 years, troopers will be using motorcycles to try to reduce traffic fatalities.

I have heard about this. I would like to see what the bikes look like. To my knowledge this is just going to be around the Columbus area, not state-wide.

Its a pilot program, if it works here in CMH then OSP will expand the unit and you could them statewide.

If the federal funds don't dry up.

I saw one for the first time today on I-71S in Columbus on a traffic stop. Not alot of lights on them to make them visible. That or they arent using alot of lights like the new lightbars they have where they only use the lower level lights instead of the full light bar.

The motorcycles OSHP is using is the Harley Davidson FLHTPI Electra Glide

Here is the information on them on the HD website

They completed their training at the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety in Evanston, IL where Harley Davidson has a school for police motorcycle training.
