First off, I'm BRAND new to trunked scanning, and I got a PRO-528 for Christmas. While the manual leaves a little to be desired, I managed to figure out how to program trunked frequencies into the scanner. Based on the info provided on this site I programed the frequencies from Clermont (where I live and work) and Warren (less than 2 miles from where I live) Counties in Ohio. I manage to receive all of Warren County's Communication, but all I seem to get from Clermont County is Data noise. Is there something I'm doing wrong, or is this scanner just not able to receive the transmissions from Clermont? As far as I can tell they are both using a Motorola type II system, so is it maybe just a reception problem since I'm a lot closer to Warren County's Comm center? Like I said I'm a total NOOB to this stuff so I apologize if I've asking any stupid questions.

Welcome to forum and Happy New Year.

Recheck that the frequencies for Clermont are set to Trunk mode.

These are certainly valid questions and this is the place to ask.

You will not be able to listen to Clermont County on your new Pro-528.
Clermont County uses digital voice and the 528 is an analog scanner.
Very few of their talkgroups are analog, all public safety use the digital mode.
The data you are hearing is the actual digital voice comms.

If you wish to listen to Clermont, Hamilton County-Cincinnati or Ohio MARCS
you will have to get a digital scanner.

Thanks a lot for the info, are there any somewhat affordable digital scanners? What would be a good one for a noob to start with? Money isn't really a big issue, but obviously the cheaper the better as long as it'll actually do the job.

Keep an eye out for the Pro-96 or Pro-2096 going on sale at Radio Shack.
It was on sale back before Christmas for $349. With the new GRE PSR-500/600
out it should continue to go on sale regularly.
