Post Wanted: Zetron Model 5 Encoder User's Manual

Hey guys,

I realize that what I'm looking for isn't exactly "radio equipment," but this is the closest forum on the site.

I'm looking for the user's manual (programming instructions) for a Zetron model 5 encoder. We use these to page out our fire dept. and EMS, but we want to change some settings due to new repeaters and whatnot.

Electronic formats preferred, but snail-mail is fine too. We've been trying to get ahold of one of these for some time now, and apparently they're few and far between.

Thanks,
TNLTRPB

You might try contacting Zetron directly. The model 5 encoder is still in production. They use to be very helpful some years back. Haven't tried to deal with them in the recent past though.

Try at www.zetron.com for their contact info.

Jim

Zetron won't release the manuals; they want customers to have to pay for a radio servicing company to come out and do it. It's quite a racket, really.

Thanks for the help, though.

Did you locate the manual? I've also run into a problem myself. I have considered purchasing a third encoder if it comes with the manual. $400'ish to buy another unit just to get the manual...

Actually, I called Zetron up and explained the situation, and they sent me a manual no charge. I was quite surprised.

Default manual

I too have the same problem. Would it be possible to get a copy of a few of the pages either electronic or faxed?

Thanks,
JD

Our EMS director ended up with the manual; however, I'll see what I can do. Like I mentioned above, I contacted Zetron and they mailed a manual to the hospital address I gave them at no charge.

I'd try to explain what each menu setting is, but it's been a while since I programmed them. I do remember that you press "*" to clear the display, then press "*" and "3" (or "*" and "1", depending upon how old the encoder is) to enter the programming menu, use the "#" key to navigate through the menus or submit entries, and "*" to go up one level in the menu or to exit the menu from the top level. There should be a sequence of 4 (IIRC) "." on the display indicating that you're in the programming mode.

I know it's not much help, but maybe it's a starting place. The programming isn't hard really, it's just rather cryptic in nature since you're looking at a numerical display only. If I find the manual again, I'll PM you for contact information.
