Anyone picking up ether Mil-Air or Ground forces comunications in the clear?

I'm pretty confident any of the ground tx's will not be in the clear... seeing as we (well they) always used ENC on the radios back in 2008 for training.. ;)

274.450 Mhz has been active last two nights ( 1900 to 2200 hrs ), they were a little broken but I did hear them saying something to the effect of the sector they were covering that they would hold until they handed off? Not really sure if the conversation originated from Canada or USA. So far tonight I have heard no mil air traffic.

Anyone else for frequencies we should be monitoring?

Anyone know of any known US Freq's that might be active due to the presence of US security etc?

Just had 3 military helicopters in formation do a low fly by past Aurora, heading North.

About 100-200 feet (at most) off the deck.

274.45 is one of the primary aerial refueling freqs from the 171st ARW (PA. Air National Guard) out of Pittsburgh. The conversation you describe and time is consistent with what I've heard from the 171st.

I also heard traffic on 364.2 this morning (just bits and pieces), after reading this thread, but pretty clear.

Here's what I've logged so far:

256.6000 MHz refueling
251.0000 refueling
304.5000 intercepts
228.5000 intercepts
341.3000 echo wizard e3
263.5000
343.4000
364.2000
363.9000
255.4000 weather

Some of this might not be G8 related but mil air comm's are generally pretty scarce around here.

Great list Mike! Yes pretty scarce indeed, very busy tonight though.

SIDECAR is the callsign for the Canadian branch of NORAD, btw; OILER is (surprise!) an air tanker.

You might hear DARKSTAR and/or BANDSAW (others I recall from the Kananaskis G8) as AWACS birds.

During the Olympics, the AWACS birds were actually broadcasting their transponders and RadarBox/SBS-1 users were picking them up.
