Durring the holidays, I had some free time on my hand so I deceided to see exacly how many CC and AC (freqs) were duplicate in the 4 zones of the system. I found 33 frequencies to be used in 2 zones or more and 14 to be used in one zone.

Here is the list.

Freqs used 2 zonesor more:
141.4200
141.7050
142.0350
142.0950
142.1400
142.2300
142.2450
142.2600
142.3200
142.3500
142.3800
142.4100
142.4400
142.5000
142.5150
142.5300
142.5900
142.6050
142.6200
142.6350
142.6500
142.6650
142.6800
142.7100
142.7250
142.8000
142.8300
142.9050
142.9500
142.9650
143.0700
143.1000
143.1450

Freqs only used in one zone:

Zone 1
141.7350
141.9750
143.8050

Zone 2
141.4350
142.2000
142.2150
142.2900

Zone 3
142.1100
142.5450
142.8450
142.8600
142.8750
143.0100
143.2650

What I did is I copied and pasted these freqs into my fleetnet systems of my scanner so I don't need to be constantly changing site freqs durring road trips. The control and the alternative channel do not need to be one after the other to monitor this Motorola system. The scanner «locks» onto the first active freq. So only copy this list and you'll be set to monitor OPP, EMS, MNR and MTO provincewide without changing the frequencies. I tried it in my hometown and it works like a charm.

Happy scanning!

Yes. However, some programing programs has limitations on how many t/g can be programed into one systems. So I suggest that you create a system for each zone (so 4 systems) and paste the list of 48 freqs (or so) I gave out in each of those system. From the experiences I did in the city, it should work. If you are in the range of more than one site/tower and you want to monitor them, then I suggest that you create a system for each site.

Hope this helps. Don't hesitate for any other questions.

There's actually 32 control channels in use in Fleetnet.

It is impossible to have more, as a Motorola radio can only support 32.

You can just go ahead and program a system with all those 32 control channels into it and use ID SEARCH mode. You'll never miss anything, no matter where in Ontario you go.

I have my 396 setup like this. The common groups like OPP and MOH Operations have labels, the rest aren't programmed...when I go to an unfamiliar area, chances are anything of interest to where I am will be on the local tower, so there's not necessarily any need to know exactly what the TG is.

Here they are:

141.42000
141.70500
142.09500

Each of those also have a respective input channel as well. There isn't much use in knowing these for tracking Fleetnet on a scanner, however some programs like TReport, Trunk88 and Trunker will display them. For interest sake, here they are as well:

I finally got a bit of spare time to try this out but am having no luck...
I use Freescan in a 396xt. I get signal bars on the system, but it never stops on anything and I never hear any transmissions.
Anyone got any suggestions?

Have you setup the base, step and offset? It's in the 'System Band Plan' box on the Site setup screen.

Weird. Works fine for me. Went on a trip from Timmins to Ottawa and i could hear all ems comm on my way there. I use ARC with a Uniden 246T. Make sure the system's setting are correct (MOT2 VHF, CC only). Also make sure that you've program borrectly the band plan My scanner is analog trunking and I monitor only EMS on BellFleetnet. If it works for EMS it should for OPP too. If you program the whole province in one system, you wont be able to because of the software limitations.

Hope this helps

No no... there is much more to it than that. You need to setup the system for Motorola Type II VHF Trunking etc etc. I see you are a Premium Subscriber... this just made things a whole lot easier.

Instead of using EasyGrab, go to File -> Import -> Radio Reference Trunked. Enter your login info then navigate your way to the Fleetnet Zone 1 system. Pick the sites and talkgroups you want and walla! It will do all the heavy lifting for you and set everything up.

Thanks Guys,
I did as Forts described and now have all the towers and 20 out of 35 groups programmed in. How do I now trim/modify these down into the "wide open" or "works everywhere" concept?
Sorry if I seem slow with this, but trunked stuff is not my strong suit.

So if I understand correctly you just make a new system & use all those cc freqs
when you lose one cc you should shortly pick up another , & not have to select or deselect per area
if you had done it that way before,... the only drawback would be if you are in an are where you can get 2 cc's
I get this I can actually get a couple depending on where I am in my yard so sometimes I will just select the one i want
