Hamilton PD using spare channels
Area 2 (East) of the Hamilton PD switched over to the secondary / spare channel a couple of days ago, and today, Area 1 (Central) switched over to the seconary / spare channel as well. Area 3 (Mountain) is still using the primary channel. Wonder if the time is getting close for the inevitable...

Quite possibly, I did ask my friend who works dispatch (she hears about the changeover more than I do) two weeks ago what was going on and she said they were still testing the new system out.. or at least that is what she was told. (apparently they don`t tell them much...)

Is anyone logging the new system? Should be obvious pretty quickly how much testing is taking/has taken place.

I asked Why our Fire Dept In Windsor was occasionally using encryption & the answer was that
they sometimes need to say sensitive info like apartment entry codes ,...
As if some highly advanced criminal organization is sitting in a room full scanners just waiting for an apartment code that you could get from simply watching the door..........
& our police with corruption so out of control the chief was forced to resign, said they needed the encryption
to comply with the privacy act ,....well, just after they were caught talking to ladies on their radios ,....
We all know its a complete sham ,...they have never had so many ways to communicate in history
for sensitive info they can use in car MDT ,....cellphones,.....an ENC talkgroup even
& leave the routine stuff in the clear to provide oversight transparency , promote public trust & let the media do their job , but instead they choose complete blanket encryption ....operating in secret encourages corruption & the public should be educated on the issue & have a vote on how they wish their public servants to operate ,...but as usual ,....the ones with the power make the rules,...& none wants to challenge it
Im sure soon enough though they are gonna be pretty pissed when they find out how widespread it is that people are buying Motorola radios off ebay & having them programmed to monitor their systems anyway,...but hey they created the demand for that themselves ,...
good luck in hamilton we will see what happens,...

I was under the impression there was? Maybe not, I dunno haha.
FoeHammer: I highly doubt people are buying radios off eBay and are having them programmed into encrypted systems. Has it happened/can it happen? Sure. But it's not routine by any means. You'd have to grease a lot of palms to get your radio anywhere near a keyloader.

This was posted back in November of 2011.
If it was supposed to come online in 72 hours, you would think that somebody would have found a control channel for it by now.

My Home Patrol isn't condusive to discovering stuff like this but I can load the possible Control channel in my 250 and see if anything pops up.
I find it hard to hear P25 systems here. I am LOS with the Metrolinks tower here and in some rooms of my apartment I lose the signal.
My radio room faces Hamilton, I was able to discover the Henderson Hospital's low power system (again LOS) so hopefully I can get the new C/C as well.
Incidentially, how many towers does Hamilton use for its system and where are they located?

The new system is online, the control channel has been active for awhile on 857.0625. This channel is currently assigned to Hamilton Emergency Services and appears to have been taken from the smartnet along with 857.3125 and 860.3125 as they were apart of the smartnet but are no longer being used by it. The control channel is a P25 control channel.

What do you mean by secondary/spare because I they are still coming up on the same talkgroups as usual?

I can barely hear the grinding control channel noise on 857.0625 from here in Aldershot.
As for the current Hamilton system I am seeing lots of police stuff on the ESU talkgroup.
Right now the HPS is quiet, I don't know if I have any of the other talkgroups entered, I should scan in search mode.
Incidentially, on 107.9's morning show each Thursday they have a segment called "ask a cop."
Perhaps someone would be willing to ask the copper if he knows anything about the new radio system and encryption?
I have heard a great many wierd questions asked, this would be tame compared to many :-).

Someone did ask about scanners at one point and I remember Officer Wagner stating that people can listen with a scanner but not for long.

I would always scan in search mode as if you have the talkgroups entered you can control which ones you want to listen to using keys and you will pick up any new talkgroups that way rather than ignore them.
HPS talkgroups have not changed and are still the same as usual.

Killjoys.
I wonder what Ben and Kerry had to say "duh, people have police scanners" duh, can anyone here my cell phone calls" or "duh, dont crimminals use scanners for crime?"
:-)
As Forts pointed out, its coming and we cannot stop it

On my radio, things are different. For a day or so, Area 1 - Central went back to the conventional channel / talk group (00080), but today, it is back to the secondary channel (14736). Area 2 - East is still using the secondary channel (14768), instead of 00048. Area 3 - Mountain is continuing on 00112.

I really had trouble hearing the new C/c last nite. I will give it a go again tonight. I wonder if they run tests at night.
