Default New Zone 2 Site (not Miller's Corners)

So I've found there's a site transmitting with SID of 36, which was last used during the G8 as "Hidden Valley" temporary site. It is now spitting out an alias of KNGSTN, so I would assume Kingston. I didn't manage to catch a control channel frequency or any voice frequencies - picked it up in a neighbour list.

I'll have a go at it later today and see what I can pick up in terms of site frequencies, neighbours, etc...

Good find, for those who are still out there looking for stuff (there are still a few
left)!

A hole in the site numbering implies possibility of active sites not yet found.
CC should not be hard to get from neighbour info.

Dave

Update: no site I can hear has Site 36 as a Neighbour (including
even Prescott). I think the Neighbour site list is 7 max. per site. Maybe
Morton (142.410) is one, but it's masked here by HQ P25 CC.

I'm guessing that there is a Hydro Quebec control channel on that frequency that is quite strong in his area.

Forts is correct. I am between the two sites, which are far enough apart
that they won't bother each other, but closer to the HQ P25 site which I
believe is at Petite-Nation (near Montebello); though the RR DB does not
identify it as such. Odd that nobody has confirmed the location. A directional
antenna would work but I don't have one set up at this point.

I wasn't able to find any voice traffic on the site in nearly an hour, so that tells me it is either a very new site, or its not in use yet. No other site is sending it as a neighbour, so that would make sense.

It's interesting that Hillside is sending both Kingston and Millar's Corners as a neighbour. It's on the west side of Algonquin Park near Dorset. That data is from November 2012 when I drove by the area. I wonder if maybe it was sending those neighbours still after G8 - both Site 37 and Site 36 were used a temporary sites in Huntsville and Hidden Valley during the conference. I suspect BMR didn't take the two sites out of the neighbour list after the G28...but since they populated the new site aliases into the system, the site spits out the new name.

I checked my Zone 2 logs, and found sites 38 and 41 in the control file, but there's no information associated to them aside from what's below. Very weird and doesn't make any sense to me? I'd hazard a guess there's another site out there somewhere that nobody has managed to find as yet.

Was in Kingston today, took the laptop running Trunk88 (Rev.4.88J) and here is what it found:

;;[Zone 36]

Alias = "KNGSTN"
Connect Tone = 128.57

Neighbour = 5 PRSCOT
Neighbour = 8 MORTON
Neighbour = 10 HARROW

; 7 channels

I'm 98% certain it is on the Bell Mobility tower on the West side of Sydemham Rd just north of the 401, at 44.29305 , -76.543701. It is not a wide area site like its neighbours PRSCOT (Prescott), HARROW (Harrowsmith) or MORTON, but a "fill-in" site. It is not using the usual six bay folded dipole on top of the tower, but a two bay array, side mounted (facing North.) Its coverage to the East is only to Gananoque or so. I didn't check it to the North or West.

I also checked out Site 37, MILRCR (Millars Corners - Kempville) on the way home, I can post that as well if anyone is interested.

Just added Site 36 for Kingston in the database.

She's ready for downloading.

I heard an ambulance on 138.195 mhz in downtown Kingston. Is would this have been a TX or RX frequency?

That would be the input to 142.215 on Kingston site. Inputs are frequently
(but not always, there are many exceptions) 4.02MHz below the outputs
on this system.

Listened to the Kingston tower for a bit. Only heard Kingston Center EMS traffic. Good strong signal. Was listening to Harrowsmith on another scanner and was about the same strength. OPP were chatting at the same time on Harrowsmith and there was nothing of that on the Kingston tower. Probably as already mentioned a fill in site. I know there are definitely areas east of Kingston by the River that are dead Zones. I have transported EMS via our marine unit to many island calls and they often switched to provincial comm because of no signal on their regular channels. I will also add our area is almost a the boarder of where EMS switch from Kingston East to Kingston Center talk groups.

Are the inputs listed anywhere? I didn't see them on the FleetNet page.

No, inputs are not listed anywhere. The database doesn't have provision for listing inputs to trunking systems.

Does each frequency have an input? I thought trunking worked by the control channel?

Trunked channels are by definition repeaters, so each one including
the CC has an input and output. Knowing where the Fleetnet inputs
are is useful if you're searching the 138-140MHz range for things other
than Fleetnet (which you seemed to have done). You can lock them out
of search, or ignore them. Fleetnet inputs aren't hard to recognize as
you will hear mixed analog and digital.
