Apparently a group has set up a Gmrs repeater in Ottawa.
Channel 22, with the transmit and receive frequencies
462.7250 repeater output channel 22
467.7250 repeater input

It's quite the range

Have GMRS repeaters been made legal in Canada, or are they just doing it and hoping for the best?

The Industry Canada web site still states that they are not permitted: See Section 4.1 Spectrum Designation in this link: https://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/smt-gst.nsf/eng/sf09104.html

I guess its possible that they could have changed the rules and not updated the site, or the operator obtained special permission.

As far as I know GMRS repeaters are still not permitted in Canada but I will see if I can verify this with Industry Canada. Perhaps it might be actually in the United States?

I just log the info from the scanner the other day
It's definitely gmrs channel 22. Ctcss tone of 123.0
462.7250

You could here a couple of guys arguing over silly stuff about the repeater.
I have no idea where in Ottawa this repeater is.

But it has an automated voice that comes on announcing the time and date
And indicates that it indicates that it is a repeater.

As it announced itself, did it announce a call sign or other identifier? That would help track it down in terms of where it is and how it has been licensed.

The repeater announces " this is the underdog repeater" then the date.
It's probably unliscensed. With a name like that, but who knows.
As far as I knew about the I.c. Rules was No fixed antenna, 2 watts ERP maximum.
You can hear them on the input frequency , at the same time as the output frequency when they talk, so I know it's
Definitely a repeater.

It likely is.

IC has never authorized repeaters in the GMRS service. Last I searched TAFL, there was very little licensed on those frequencies, and the inputs to the US repeater pairs have been held in 'reserve' so that if they decide to allow repeaters, the inputs are available.

Here in the east end (St Laurent and Hemlock), I can only occasionally hear them, not the whole conversation, just parts.

HA-HA! yes that must have been a dyslexic error, or my eyes are going.

It should be 462.600.

It's not legal. Nothing will likely be done, unless there is serious interference, or there's numerous complaints. Industry Canada is complaint driven. And if these repeaters were affecting public safety or any other commercial channels consistently, it would be investigated.
To me, they are pirate repeaters. Or ones that are not registered with industry Canada with a valid indentification.

462.5500 MHz is also now active.

CTCSS/PL is 123.0 Hz

Standard +5 MHz input frequency/offset.

Industry Canada has had their staff cut back and yet forced with more work..they wont be investigating any of these things sadly as its GMRS....they dont have the time to deal with this...theyre about 2 years to get frequencies for commercial and government use right now

No answers ? Did anyone find out if this repeater is legal, or if it is within the new laws .
