Default IPM 2018 Chatham-Kent

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has info on the radio system the International Plowing Match is using this year? All I know so far is that they are using a portable tower, and their system is using 15 channels. It is up and running right now, i saw some workers using radios yesterday.

Looks like the event has grown (pun semi-intended), back in 2003 in Carleton Place they got away with a 3-channel LTR system on-site.

The one organizer had a motorola handheld, sorry couldn't see the model number.
IF they are DMR, they have 15 different tg's. I know Maple City Citizens on Patrol will be doing night security.

No they looked more like XPR6000 series radios.
The IPM committee handed out pamphlets for all volunteers that had 15 radio channels / talkgroups listed, one for each area, I'll post a list when I can. Plus MCCOP will be using their radio system at night all week so in reality there are 16 different channels being used out there. They might be using a site-on-wheels, as there are a couple of mobile extendable towers out there, one is supposed to be a cell phone tower and another is supposed to be WIFI.

Last year they used rental equipment out of Quebec ( I believe). The radios were all TRBO on a CAPmax 2 RF freq system.

AMB used one of their VRS freqs, OPP set up a BEAT repeater (same this year hint). Lots of FRS use by retailers.

This year OPP won't be doing much, except some traffic on site. EMS is on the IPM system while on-site, and regular fleetnet if transporting. Fire will be staging at the Home Depot and if needed will respond from there along with an OPP escort, they didn't want the trucks onsite because they might get stuck in a certain area.
Unfortunately I won't be there until Saturday, my company won't let me have the time off to help out at IPM.

What kind of trunked system should we set this up as? Show opens tomorrow. With my outdoor antenna, I might be able to listen in...

Sounds like nobody's found the system frequencies yet...

Possibly Fleetconnect but unknown how good is coverage for that area; and they would likely add temporary frequencies which may not show up in TAFL; similar to what happened with Ottawa Race Weekend (site went from 3 to 5 frequencies).

Not sure if Closecall works reliably on DMR repeater outputs.

Strategies which could be used:

(1) If you know it's UHF, manually scan sub-bands 420-425, 451-455, and 460-465 with small antenna close to site, with attenuator on. Note active DMR channels. Look up in TAFL for additional info if any. (helps to know what active DMR VC's "sound like" on analog).

(2) Could scan input ranges as in (1): 409-410, 426-430, 456-460, 465-470.

(3) Use laptop with SDR, look for very strong signals.

(4) If it's not UHF (antennas should give a clue), may need a lot of searching. For commercial use, generally start with 162-170.

if the channels are very active CC will catch them if both time slots are active at the same time.

Found it in TAFL, temporary licence to CTM (makes sense, they do a lot of this). 4W TX ERP, short range.

Four VCs for 15 TGs? That'll be fun.
