Wow its time I I start carrying my gun to work now I work in a mall. For a store.
We are the only store in Reno to have VHF p25 encrypted Comms. LOL but all my coworkers are now being told what codes to ues if we have a shooting or something of the nature.

listeners have gone down now (but still well beyond the #2 top feed), but I saw it with over 6100

and it sounds like police are still going store-by-store clearing the mall

I am listening to the feed archive and I am pleased how calm everyone is and how the information is being relayed. Good job to all involved.

I was watching some of the TV news coverage on the ABC network national news and they played a clip of the emergency radio traffic that had an on screen credit given to "RadioReference.com." The segment will likely be rerun later today as well.

Tragic situation but I did get a laugh at an indignant Portland KGW-TV (NBC network) reporter Pat Doris last night, when mall security came to escort him off the mall property as he had just gone live on the air at that moment with an update (a few hours after the shooting ended, some media types were still chasing patrons and others to their cars trying to get on air comments, etc). So the live shot continued with the reporter having to carry a tripod all the way from mall to what looked like 82nd Avenue, giving a running commentary while being closely followed by his cameraman mall security to be sure they left...

A RR feed can be a useful tool to media, private entities, and the public in general. To see that this tool works, especially under stress (i.e. 5000+ listeners) means that the feed provider is doing something right. There's no shame in that, nor is there in reporting the status of it.

You can file your complaint to /dev/null

A status symbol need not necessarily be a bad thing, although I would not use such a term in this circumstance. Judging by the amount of feed listeners, a lot of people were able to get information this way that otherwise may not have. If that was my feed, I would feel proud that it was up and running in a time of need for a lot of people.

So a lot of people were listening and somebody here commented on it. So what? The motive you claim, of a status symbol, may be inaccurate.

My apologies I didn't post what I was hearing or something else more interesting, but I was somewhat busy with stuff.

It was just surprising to see a feed that's usually not even the top feed for the metro area become the one that has more than 10 times the listeners of any other feed in the country.

Also speaking about TV news, given reuses like that we'll never know how many people got to hear from it.
