PFD just announced "cutover is complete. All fire department ops will now be on new system."
FYI South Division Police cuts over tomorrow, 1-18-13.

So, PhillyFireNews has a consolidated post explaining what's up:
http://pafirenews.net/messageboard/i...54381#msg54381
Anyone using a 396XT on the new system? I'd like to be able to listen without dropping money on another scanner.

The Uniden BCD396T/996T and the BCD396XT/996XT all work just fine with this system for now; whomever wrote the article on PhillyFireNews.com apparently did not do their comprehensive homework...
When Phase 2 talkgroups begin showing up on the system, those will only work on the PSR-800 scanner at the present time!

I think that is just a typo on the pfn site. I have been in contact with the owner of the site regarding the new system, so he has gotten acurate info from me. I will advise him of the error

I've got the new systems plugged into my BC396T as well as the 996T in the car. So far driving through the city, reception seems to be much improved on the 996T, much less chopping of signal etc. Don't have enough technical knowledge to know if this is due to improvements made to the system, or the scanner itself, or what.

I still think I'm gonna go with an external antenna for in the car. The 396 and 996 might have slightly better receivers than the PSR-800

I have mine hooked up to a larsen cell lookalike glass mount scanner antenna tuned for 800mhz. Wasn't about to drill any holes...

Hi, I imported RR freq's into my RS pro-2096, set system to mot, and set 3600 baud to normal and 9600 to normal, works fine, signal strength is down but works. 73

Pro-96 on Phillys new system:
I programmed the two new 9600 baud controll channels in my pro-96. The display was showing the controll channels and the new talk group numbers. No voice was heard. I had my pro-106 on also and it worked just fine. I have it set to p-25 auto. The 106 was getting audio and I was able to hear the radio traffic. It displayed the CC, voice channel freq, radio number, and motorola channel number. I then noticed why the pro-96 was not picking-up any voice traffic. It was going to the wrong voice channel. While listening to the same talk group on both radios, the pro-106 showed the voice channel 852.1625. The pro-96 showed the voice channel 855.2125. Wrong voice channel ! This is why the pro-96 is silent ! What is the solution to this problem? Custom tables? If so, what is the base,off-set,and step? No spot for high/low freqs. Let me know. Thanks. Plato.

Danny, you should set it to P25 system with no special tables, and it should work.

Looks like everything is on the new system as of now. Been monitoring the old system for about 10 minutes now and no activity.

I need to upgrade firmware on 996XT....has anyone needed to make adjustments to the "hidden" P25 Adjust Mode or level...the upgrade suggests Mode setting of 11 (or 8) and level 50

Yep, 1/3/17 & 22nd on the new system now, still haven't heard an M band broadcast though.
So what do you guys think, sound quality the same, better worse? I have a Pro-197 on my desk, it's connected to a magnetic mobile antenna which sits outside my 2nd floor window on the sill, neither have moved in months, the new system for me is pretty much the same leaning toward louder but a tad choppier.

Need some help programming the 396,996t's. right from step one would help. All frequencies or just control channels, and all the other settings. Using ARC software. Tried several different ways no luck.

M Band won't be on line until 1-19-13 or so.
Mobile reception is extremely poor, very choppy with a RS Pro106 smack in the middle of the city.

One thing i noticed on my way to work is that the usual dead spots on the old system are even worse on the new system. Looks like my PSR-800 is going to get a trunk mounted antenna shortly along with an amplified speaker.
|
That's my problem, too. I live on Beatty Rd. in Springfield and as soon as I get over the hill coming from 320 towards the Blue Route, I lose the system. I was able to pick up the old system fine. I'm getting ready to reprogram my PSR-500 to see if it makes a difference.
Take Care,

I also monitor the PhillyScanner Yahoo group and I noticed that they keep mentioning that Philly has rebanded. I could be wrong, but I thought that this was a new system and that they cut over to it.
As far as listening to the new system, when I'm in the car, the system sounds louder and the audio appears to be clearer. Just my $.02
Take Care,

They switched from 3600 baud to 9600 baud.
Same towers and infrastructure, rebanded frequencies, FD got new portable radios, PD has mix of XTS3000 and new XTS5000. Basically an upgrade.
