Well this is very interesting. We're all still conventional VHF high band and UHF up here in NEPa but I'm going to be doing some traveling next weekend. I would've never thought of trying this but I will have to try it on my 396XT and see what happens. TY for posting this one.

One13Truck,

Would suggest trying it, it absolutely made a difference for my 800 TRS reception. What before was broken up now is a lot clearer and what before was missing the conversation in spots to just watch the decoding change on the scanner now I can catch conversations to a reasonable level of listening no matter how bad of a spot I'm in. Wondering if UPMan has seen this to weigh in on why it might be affecting things, with a lot of recent talk about when the next new ones may be coming out this may be an issue that needs more looking at before they are released.

1.11.01 is the latest and it works great with the Philly system!

Well I went through and made sure the change is done on mine. I might not notice the difference quite as much as you all will though just because we don't have any systems up here to monitor on a daily basis. But I'll see how it performs.

Got a wildcard hit for TG 1549 earlier tonight. Not sure if this is snow-related or not but I've never seen this TG before. Any idea on what this could be?

UPDATE: Now getting a hit on TG 1535. Not getting any voice on either one (at least not that I can decipher) just brief "noise" for lack of better term.

UPDATE 2: Add TG 1543 to the list. Got undecipherable voice at the beginning of the transmission. I should note my reception on just about all 800 mhz is not very good at my location.

I have a list of 34 wildcard hits. Which includes the ones you mentioned. These talkgroups are not listed in the Radio Reference Database. I live about 3 miles from the closest tower and my reception is very good.

My guess would be some new agencies that hadn't been brought onto the 800 system yet, such as maybe the folks who were using the old UHF police channels.

Could be snow ops at the airport.

They were on TG 301 and other known Airport Talkgroups. I don't get a chance to monitor things during the weekday daytime period since I'm at work but I know I haven't really heard much of anything on the UHF City Channels in a while other than the one Prison channel.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Android 4.0.4; LG-MS870 Build/IMM76L) AppleWebKit/535.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/18.0.1025.166 Mobile Safari/535.19)

I have not listened to the UHF channels in awhile, but I know on Streets Band people would talk about defective traffic lights, so maybe streets (which includes sanitation division) moved over. They do put plows on the trash trucks...

I did catch some activity very briefly on the UHF Streets Dept channel (453.925 / 91.5) on December 14th while the snow was falling. So I'd say Streets appears to still be on UHF.

Anyone else notice this? For the 2nd time in a week, right around 7am, the fire dispatchers appear to be using backup radios, without the ability to sound an alert tone. They say "standby for a fire dispatch". Now they made an announcement that they were performing a site trunking drill. I picked up 2 new radio ID from the dispatchers, 8235 and 8237. Usually they use 5078, 5100, etc. Interesting...

82XX Is going to be related to the Backup radios.

City PD ops have been doing regular -backup tests- on a shift by shift schedule..
the PD also has Backup IDs that are 82XX series..thats for all the districts(PD Side)
JBand,MBand and TBand also.

So makes sense that the FD&EMS Disp is part of the same backup set up..

As far as all the wildcards,Are your radios loaded with the cities narco and spec ops TGs?
Load em and lock them out..See if you still get the wildcards,,,34 sounds right for the number
of ENC groups on the PPD TRS..wildcards may be catching the ENC TGs that would only break
SQ and would give no audio..

Just a thought.

Cheers!

Dumb question...I've seemed to have lost my Phila reception sometime during these past snow storms...They didn't go Ph II yet correct? Did they re-aim antennas

Albeit, my reception was "edgey" at best with a RS discone and LM400 cable...antenna LOOKS OK but who knows with all of the ice etc.....was thinking about upgrading antenna...but it was too risky with weather...now that it is getting nicer...I'm only about 5 miles from airport so you would think reception might be weak, but readable

996XT firmware was upgraded last fall. Funny , I still get NJSP repeater, but this always had a strong signal

No noticable changes on my end, they have NOT switched to phase 2. Your antenna could be an issue, however, i would try reflashing your scanner's programming just to be safe. I know it sounds dumb, but people have experienced issues with scanners "losing" parts of the data for whatever reason. If that doesnt work, then I would get the ladder out.

Thanks....I'm thinking ladder...the RS isn't a very good antenna...probably go to Diamond and re-do connector

I'll re-flash the chip just to be sure

Didn't want to spend $$$$ for new PHII scanner if I didn't need to

Yes they are. PPA has 3 talk groups:

1301 PPA Administration
1303 Parking Enforcement & Boot Department
1305 Tow Squad, Impound Lot, Taxi/Limo Enforcement
